1945
In the summer of 1945, Betty (Arnett) Ward is admitted to Currier Hall "on a trial run," becoming the first African American woman to live in the dorms. Earning a B.A. in commerce and a M.A. in industrial management at The University of Iowa, Ward continues her education at Cornell University and later pursues a long career in education, eventually becoming the president of the Adult Education Association of the USA, the first African American woman to do so.
