Cameron June the 29 1861
Dear Sister fore the first time I sit down to wright you a few lines I am as well as ever I was in my life the Boys are all well we hav to take it as it comes and it comes prety hard some times Our headquarters are at St Joseph, we are 35 miles east of their guarding bridges. we came out heare last friday night it rained all that night We hearing that there was as a company to the railroad that night we went out to stop them but they being on horseback were to fast for us we did not get them. we sleep in the cars. when we sleep at all. I must stop awhile we have to get down the road 5 or 6 miles to see if the road is all right. Wel we found it allright last night, 25 east of hear the rebles tried to through the train off the track but they were sean at it and stopt the boys are all wrighting to the girls I want to wright one or two my self I have not heard from you since I left you I want you to wright to me and tell me all that you know direct yure letters to St Joseph [6 Iowa?] voluntiers Second reigment care of Capt Cowles Company.
