Description	William Titus Rigby served in the Civil War as a second lieutenant in the 24th Iowa Infantry, Company B. Later he attained the rank of captain. He was involved in the Coldwater Expedition and the Vicksburg campaign. After the war he attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, gaining his A.B. degree in 1869. He later became a banker at Mechanicsville. Rigby was deeply involved with veterans affairs. In 1895, he was elected secretary of the Vicksburg National Military Park Association. In 1899, he became the park's resident commissioner. He is buried at the Vicksburg National Cemetery.

Full Text	June 20 My Darling It was beastly dusty & dirty in the Cars this afternoon. My eyes were sore when I got here at a little after Six. As I had supper at [Ruthven?], Soon as I cleaned up went out to find my man. Mr M.S. [Bemis?]. He is a lawyer & a partner of [J.W. Gorey?]. Found Mr. B. sitting comfortably on the steps of his office. Waiting to go to K.P. Lodge. A talk of 15 minutes did the business & secured him for the Work in this County. Have not seen J.W. G. shall Call on him in the morning. I leave here at 11 am for Spirit Lake. Your own Will
