Description	Diary kept by Louis Parsons of Burlington, Iowa. Parsons grew up in Burlington during the 1870s and 1880s. His father, Albion, owned a general store. while his mother, Mary, raised Louis and older sister Ella. When Louis was 13, his father died. As a boy, Louis enjoyed drawing and playing with his cousins. His interests also included technical hobbies such as photography and making electric batteries. He attended West Hill, a private school in Burlington, but a number of health problems caused him to miss one year of school. One of Louis' favorite childhood memories was a visit to California in 1889.
