NILE KINNICK IS VOTED
CHICAGO TRIBUNE AWARD
Iowa's "Sensational Backfield Star
Most Valuable In Big Ten
. . League
Chicago, Dec. 18.—(£>)—The football season is a thing of the past,
but the honors still roll in for Nile
Kinnick, Iowa's great triple-threat
All-America back.
The week-end brought him the
award as the western conference's
most valuable player in a poll of
coaches and official conducted annually by the Chicago Tribune. Kin-
nick will receive a silver football,
actual size. Tom Harmon of
Michigan, another fine back, was
second.
The twenty-three participating in
the voting gave Kinnick more votes
than any winner since the award
was started in. 1924, when the Illinois immortal, Red Grange, was the
recipient. Howard Weiss of Wisconsin won the award a year ago.
The only athletics eligible are the
10 representing the various conference school who have been voted
most valuable to their respective
teams by their teammates. . Besides
Kinnick and Harmon, those in the
running this year were Bob Wasem,
Chicago; Steve Andrako, Ohio
State; James Logan, Indiana; Frank
Bykowski, Purdue; George Paskvan,
Wisconsin; John Haman, Northwestern; Bill Lenich, Illinois and
Harold Van Every, Minnesota.
