Dear Fred
Thanks for your prompt and adequate letter or- the General
Company. I found that the firm thru which 1 really wanted to write
the insurance could give rae a policy in the General at the full
earing, tho with a smaller fee to themselves. So I took the saving.
About the sane tine that I wrote to you, we nailed back
to George the hook on British Soluntia fish and animals. Our George
didn't absorb a great deal of it, but 1 found it very interesting.
It was cost kind of George to send it to us, and I wish that you
would hand him this letter so that he nay know that it was appreciated. George K. would take keen delight in hooking some of the
flnnies described, but he for soms reason hasn't developed the
liking for books and reading that abides with the rest of us. I
hops that it shows up sooner or later in order that he may not only
learn something more than occurs before his own eyes and ears, but
find therein an answer to the too frequent query, "What shall I do?"
lbs summer is proving to be a pleasant one for all of us,
as it is the first time that all of the boys have been at hone during
the vacation for about three years. Benilaw wanted Ulle back at
Highlands but he preferred to stick at the home ranch, and the rest
of us are liking it too. During June it was lets of sleep, much
reading and considerable golf. About July 1st he began his labors
wilfc the grain inspection service for the Grain Exehangej taking
samples in the wheat cars as they arrive. His crew works in the
CBS yards, beginning at 6 AS and ending at from one to three In
the KI, depending on the amount of business. It Is pretty hot In
the yards but he doesn't seem to alnd any part of it except the
early starting gun. This work will last until 1st or 2nd week
in August, probably. About the middle of August Iiile is going up
to Okiboji for a brief stay to aid the Iowa coaches in staging a
demonstration in coaching. Soon after that he likely will begin
working out with the football aa It appears that he intends to
take his football seriously this fall. I am hoping that before
the beys go back we can all take a short jaunt somewhere, perhaps
to the Black Hills. I can't remember when tho full east has taken
part in the same vacation.
Ben came home on the afternoon of the 4th, on schedule,
and reporters, fine trip east and a highly educational excursion,
including a flying trip to Sew Tork and the Pair. His nature Is
to make the most of such an opportunity and he brought back a good
bunch of pictures and copious notes. The people he was with ware
especially Interested in the historical aspects of the country and
as they bad been there several times before, they could give Ben
a liberal education in American history. Ben now is employed by
the outfit which installed the air-conditioning equipment in the
Farm Credit Building and will help them for the next two or throe
weeks In adjusting and balancing the system. He Is glad to net
