Chelsea—March 31. [?1840] My dear Sir,
I should have written to you yesterday morning, but was obliged to attend to some other writing after breakfast, which drew me into it so entirely, head & ears, that I unfortunately let the post slip.

Chelsea—March 31. [?1840] My dear Sir , I should have written to you yesterday morning, but was obliged to attend to some other writing after breakfast, which drew me into it so entirely, head & ears, that I unfortunately let the post slip. [Page Break] And I am now so jaded that I must still be in your debt for a chat. Will you come, & indebt me more, next Saturday evening,—to tea? and then I will do my chattest to repay you on the spot. Say "Yes" in [Page Break] a line, that I may have an answer to others that might chance to invite me out. Give my blessing to "damndest" when you see him, & our loves to Mrs. Powell.— Jacintha thanks you for remembering her, & spells her name as you see. The J is the Y of the origi- [Page Break] nal word, Hyacinth. Take the H away, & leave Yacinth, & then turn Y into J, and as Goldsmith says in proving Folis & Noah to be the same (merely by changing Fo into No, & Is into Ah) "there you have it."— Miss Tree is a love,—an Arbor Vitae; & will be back, I trust, at Easter, Juniperizing (Ginevra, you know, is Juniper). You see I could not help writing on. Ever heartily yours , L. H. [Page Break] Thomas Powell 2. Leadenhall Street . Free . Leigh Hunt |
