Feb. 6th, 1860 My dear Sir , You will receive together with this letter a copy of the Atlas of Feb. 4th, containing a review of your Australian Facts and Prospects. Perhaps you have not altogether forgotten my name; at least, let me hope that the sight of [page break] it below will recal to your mind the young experimentalist in verse, in whom you took a kindly interest some years ago. I am now the Editor of the Atlas, which, from having fallen to rather a low point, is slowly, but I trust surely, reasserting itself. As for verse-writing, I do very little in that way; having, indeed, within the last year lost my chief incentives to that form of composition. I take it for granted that you know [page break] from the London papers the reason for the black border round my note paper. And Leigh Hunt too is gone!-surviving his old friend barely three months. You who knew both will pardon this intrusion of personal sorrows . I have received great entertainment & instruction from reading your book, & hope some day to see the Autobiographical part continued. But may I not also hope to see the Orion or Gregory VII. vein reopened in good time? or is the soil of Australia quite unfitted for that [page break] sort of culture? I fancy not, judging from the Sonnet on Sir Isaac Newton . If you can find time to address to me a few lines in answer to this, the sight of your hand once more will be very welcome to , My dear Sir , Yours very sincerely Edmund Ollier R.H.
