Dec. 11. /53 My dear Ollier , I happen at this moment to be able to say little more than that I hope you keep fast locked up in your firesidings this bitterly cold weather, and that I should [page break] have answered Edmund's query on Saturday, but looked through divers books in vain. The one I send him will, I hope, suffice, - by implication, if not by direct intelligence. The Blackwood I send you, chiefly for some curious anti-asthmatical possibi- [page break] ties connected with arsenic (p. 687, &c.) -"worth reflection" as the lender says; but of course demanding physician's superintendence. They do however seem very curious indeed, & consideration-worthy . On turning to the Spectator, I find I had marked & double-marked [page break] the quotation from Therlode, yet had strangely forgotten it, though it is so close to my habitual & fondest speculations . I have /---/ not yet been out of doors, but am this moment welcoming a little burst of sunshine - in hope of being so in a day or two. The cold strikes me back. Let us both take care of it, for Wednesdays and other Friend's days sakes. Your affectionate , L. H . [page break] [continued on top of page 1] No hurry for the magazine; which is my own. The other book perhaps you can let me have again in a fortnight or so. |
