Genoa--Dec. 5. 1822
Dear Sir,
I beg your pardon very sincerely, as I am sure I ought, for having so long delayed answering your letter; but I have just sent off all the materials for the 2d. Number of the Liberal, & the fact is, I have had so much writing to do, & so many other cares to look after, that when I earn a little repose vi et armis, I am very apt to be gathered into the bosom of the vis inertia. We are all pretty well here,
except my wife, though she is much better altogether than when in England. We do not like the winter for her in this
climate, & would willingly get out of it again if we could,
but we are compelled to wait till summer time, after which
she shall certainly not pass another winter higher up than
Tuscany. We think, before this
