Thanbury April 18th. 1859 . My dear Hunt , Were it worth while I would beg of you instead of “Gems from the Statesman” &c. to read – Always we gladly see him in the old And glorious temple faithful worshipped . That is, vindicating the right, denouncing the wrong, & clothing all things with a broad brilliant light – in a style playful and polished, searching and [page break] conclusive as in the days of the young Examiner, & vigorous as then . A pretty fellow I must be to laugh at blunders in the Bristol paper, & at the same time talk of “The Statesman”, when I meant “The Spectator.” The fact is, I only see quotations from the latter, & I do now & then get “The Statesman”. And the confusion was perhaps not unnatural because there were some interesting articles in “The Statesman” some time ago in which justice was fairly done to [page break] to the Examiner and yourself; & they seem not to amid any opportunity that presents itself for a friendly notice . You will forgive me for teasing you again, & believe me , My dear Hunt , Affectionately yours , J.W. Dalby . |
