Transcript	Friday Morning One Oclock My dearest Love, I am afraid I am sadly transgressing now in delaying to answer you so long; but when you know the cause you will forgive me. You must know then that I have been more anxious than usual. Thornton (who has been far from well sometime) was all yesterday till about 4 oclock very unwell indeed & then he was then seized with such violent pains that I was quite alarmed, they continued acute in the extreme till at last I could bear it no longer, & sent for Mr Allan. (I thought it was inward inflammation arising from cold upon the salts, (in consequence of his over delicacy, which is very dangerous, however pleasant it is to see, in any one you regard.) & this morning Mr Allan tells me he has no doubt but I am right.) However he continued so alarmingly ill that I was obliged to send Mr May to Mr A. again at past eleven at night. I can't tell you the state of anxiety I was in; though the medicine was so frequent, & so strong it would not take any effect till this morning about 8 oclock. & thank God! he is now better. Mr Allan has not long left me, he says there is not the least danger now & that he will soon be well (with care) he has no doubt. But the attack has been most severe & he is not at all surprized at my being alarmed. All this being the case I could not endure the idea of keeping you all day in suspense & thought it would be better to send this morning. & it delights me to send you such an account which is even better than I expected. I thank you from the /---/ centre of my heart for your dear letters, they are better than any medicine to me I am sure - I am much better than I was the other day, but I am inclined to think the cold weather had some share in the pains I suffered, as, though it has left my /---/ knees etc., I have had it very sharp in my hands at times; but I am tolerably free now: & much as I should like to see you (heaven knows!) my fear of Jaquet is stronger than ever, & I beg you to take care of his cunning son. Not that I have heard of him since, but one or two things have come round to me that shew he is on the watch for your return. You were very considerate of me with respect to Mr H, so I was certainly disappointed at the amount, but still (as you say) the manner, & tone is a great deal, & I have no doubt of the sincerity of his wishes. & delighted that you forgive me my share. I think you are right in seeing Capper, & Stuart & Mills, & hope you have succeeded, the more on that /---/ account. I am much obliged to Mr Hunter for the sack, & tell Betsey I am in the dark about the cross, for I was so excessively alarmed about that time, & my attention was so taken up in making hot tea for Thornton, that Miss Jacyntha had so /disfigured/ disfigured the cover before I attended to it that if there had been one I should not have seen it. You do not mention the number of boxes you have received. With respect to moving I think we are just where we were before, we cannot leave Epsom till these things are paid, unless we could induce them to take bills, which I feel persuaded they would not do: so, my dear Henry, I am afraid patience, patience, is still the word. I have given your messages to the young ones, but I am sorry to say that of John (short of violence) he has been as unpleasant & bad as he can - that Percy's behaviour is the same - When I gave him your message he colored up to the eyes, & said he did not say he was sorry about any thing: and that the drawing was an old one of Thorntons. I have no fault to find with the rest & I am grieved to be /oblig/ obliged to say what I do of them. I must remember that Marys temper has not been so good as when you were in town before, - but not very bad. Vincent is less irritable, but still continues weak; Mr Allan says, he wants tone. Jacyntha is, I think, much better. Ellen is better in mental health. Which you will be glad to hear on my account. I thought Mr Hunter might like to know that he can have fine fresh walnuts from Ashted Park at 8d. & a 1/ a 100, according to the size - I mean to make a grand search for the Redi myself tomorrow, & hope to send you good news. - I find the coaches are so irregular during the races that I have resolved upon sending this by the Carrier this evening & shall keep it open accordingly to tell you the last news. If you can send for your (or rather my) Indicator I should be much obliged. Mrs A -wishes so much to see it & if you could send me some entertaining book it would be a Poet-send. I had almost forgot to tell you Thornton and myself have re-calculated [page break - the following page does not match Page 7 online] your new book and come to this conclusion, that if you have the same number of cuts as the specimen you brought the ten guineas worth or pounds worth 5434 words; and then that is in their favour, and for every plate that takes up the whole page instead of half must be taken off 150 words. I send you this statement, as I thought you might be glad of the help to your head. 8 o'clock in the Evening Thornton has been waltzing! but seriously, he is most wonderfully better, and we go on very quietly. I feel myself the effects of fatigue, and anxiety, and want of rest, this evening very much; but I have no doubt a quiet night will set me up again. I would rather you sent by the coach tomorrow if you can manage it as well, (or by the carrier) than by the post. - I have a great deal to say to you when I see you, I am sure. With regard to moving, I do assure you without being at all impatient, I feel bodily that I shall be very glad of rest in another place, under your protection & support - but I say to myself, patience, patience. - I send you countless kisses for the nice head you sent me of my favorite. Were you fearful I should kiss him that you stole his lips? - The fact is, you sealed them with your letter & when I took hold of it the lips came away with the seal: so my picture is spoilt, & I am patient. - You have not sent me the list of book marked. I am afraid this is a sad rambling letter but I think I have written it at 20 /different/ different times. I snatch a minute or two at a time, to come & talk to you. I think I have sent you a pamphlet. Will you ask Betsey to get me a reel of cotton at Baileys (their own) No 28? I have got such a beautiful bunch of roses on the table I should have sent them you in the box, if you had not disliked it. Will you ask Betsey to put the box I have sent to-night up in her room? If you send me a letter by the post to-night let me know tomorrow. for I doubt if Jaquet will send it. The Carrier is come so farewell dearest, dearest one.
