My dear Hunt
I have been confined to my rooms since I last wrote with cold and rheumatism in the face. Otherwise I should have gone up to you.
Are you out yet? Are you in condition for a quiet chop here

My dear Hunt I have been confined to my rooms since I last wrote with cold and rheumatism in the face. Otherwise I should have gone up to you . Are you out yet? Are you in condition for a quiet chop here any day (your own) next week? I want to talk to you of many things. Of some I meant to have written - but what I write might possibly be misunderstood. Thus much however - Have the Covent Garden people (you know my opinion of them) told you of a comedy they are about the produce at once - and of a play they only wait Miss Tree's arrival to put into rehearsal? Do you think it candid that you should be continually "fobbed off" on the score of alterations - these persons knowing well that they have meanwhile pledged themselves, in any case, & however successful your alterations, to prefer another (& later candidate) to you. But let us meet & talk. Ever my dear Hunt your affectionate friend John Forster Ash Wednesday 1841 |
