My dearest love,
I have received a letter of yours dated the 13th. October which has quite afflicted me, but from its early date (though it did not reach me till today) I hope you may have heard from me long before now, for I have written you two letters, the first of which may not have been delivered to you, for I had not been in Titchfield Street all the week & forgot your direction and therefore directed it at random to you "at Lady Rivers's Nelson Parade or elsewhere Ramsgate." The second letter however, which I wrote yesterday was directed properly, and if you have not received that, I would advise you to search at the Post-Office, where you will most probably find the first one. Do not be angry with me, for though I did not write as soon as I should have done, yet I shall send you a letter almost every day unless it is a very long one, and you know that letters are sometimes not answered directly by others who love as dearly as I do, or as they say, more dearly. I intended to have written to you from office this morning, but I was so busy from eleven till four that I had not time, and now I am scribbling in a hurry for the postman; but I shall write again tomorrow. - My brother John, my sister, & myself go to Mr. Whitaker's to night. - Pray write to me as soon as you can & tell me about my letters. I did not think you would have told your mother that you had heard from nobody: so the letter said which was shewn me on Saturday night when I went to Titchfield Street.
