My dear Mr. Mayer,
I received your letter on Saturday evening, forwarded from office by my chief; who very likely missed it on Friday evening. I am here, with his father, Mr. J.M. Levy, /until/ for some 8 or 10 days longer. I had out pen & paper to write to you yesterday; but found that I was too late for post, which earlier on Sunday I had written home, just in time for post, when I discovered my mistake -caused by misinformation- & I slipped your note in for Walker to read; telling him that I was /---/ writing to you by same post.
I am sorry that anything should have secured to vex you. I did not happen to see that to which /---/ you
