No. 3 The questions I asked Mr Ollier were upon what sentence Mr M -required 3 month after the sale of the Edition ^to pay you to your share when he must have been in the receipt of the ready money all the time of its sale more on less & if it was proper for him to have the /---/ regulation of the size of the Edition when [page break] the longer he made them the longer time he had the use of the money & you kept the longer out of your share of the profits and with a steryotype there is no occasion as that is half the use of a steryotype that you can print them off as they are wanted, & that Mr M -gets the [page break] half of the great part of your lifes labour for the nominal risk of bringing them [?out] -(of course I dont mean the copyright) That you are as safe without the agreement as with it - indeed more so [page break] after Mr O’s & Mr J’s letters That Mr Moxon should not have an interminable power /---/---/---/ to print from the plates but that after he has been handsomely remunerated Mr H. should have the liberty of buying /his/ to Mr M’s half in the property of the plates & that on the Editions are & must be merely nominal stated times for paying Mr H. his [page break] share of the prospects is fairer [page break] Do I ask anything wrong, in proposing, 1st that some limit, though of course the most handsomely remunerating length, should be put to your share in this form of the Poetical Works: /---/---/---/ or proprietorship of the plates. 2dly. that should know what you call /---/ edition: & 3dly. that stated times should be settled for dividing the profits, apart from the complete sale of such editions? |
