| Description | Words by various poets. Interlinear words (1st verse), remaining verses printed as text below. Melodies from string quartet movements arr. for voice and piano, the music for the 3rd song not based on any known work of Pleyel (cf. Benton, X03). Engraved throughout. Title within ornamental border including Pan playing his pipes on the left, a cherub at the keyboard at lower right, and various instruments and scattered throughout border. The musical incipit of B. 349 (ii) (the "German Hymn") at foot of the border. Library's copy bound in boards with cover title "XII Ellegant [sic] Ballads with an accompt. for a piano forte, 1792" inscribed in ink on label. "The Brit. Mus. Library Cataloguer dates this work 1792" inscribed in ink on p. [2] of cover, "Alfred Moffat, 17 Feb 1921" and "B[oun]d June 1922" in ink on flyleaf. |
