DR. G. E. GOWDY
LECTURER
Figure
HOME ADDRESS LEBANON, OHIO
ANNOUNCEMENT
T
HE true purpose of a lecture is to instruct. If the information imparted can be given with just enough incident, illustration and humor to make it entertaining, as well as instructive, it is sure to please, and its value is greatly enhanced. The comments printed in this circular, from such popular lecturers as Col. Geo. W. Bain, Lou J. Beauchamp, Sylvester A. Long, Prof. J. B. DeMotte and Dr. Guy Potter Benton, emphasize the fact that the lectures of Dr. Gowdy may be heard with pleasure and profit. The same testimony comes from some of our most prominent Chautauqua managers. It adds to the value of Dr. Gowdy's platform work that he has a strong, clear, and pleasing voice, which makes it possible for him to be heard with ease in any auditorium.

Testimonials from Prominent Lecturers and Chautauqua Managers
Col. Geo. W. Bain
I heard Dr. Gowdy in his lecture on
The Holy Land.
It had an excellent setting of good things and impressed me as being exceptionally appropriate and fine for a Chautauqua program.
Lou J. Beauchamp
The lectures of Rev. Geo. E. Gowdy will satisfy any audience before which they may be delivered. When all is over you feel as if you have not only been entertained, but have added a goodly lot to your store of general knowledge.
Sylvester A. Long
I have seen the Gowdy lectures hold and entertain Chautauqua audiences under very trying conditions. The splendid manhood of the speaker is a strong bow sending beautiful arrows of truth straight to the mark.
Prof. J. B. DeMotte
I take great pleasure in recommending the work of Rev. Geo. E. Gowdy for Chautauqua and other associations. His lectures are solid, instructive and authentic. He is a valuable acquisition to any high class program.
Rev. Guy Potter Benton, D. D.
PRESIDENT MIAMI UNIVERSITY, OXFORD, OHIO
It has been my good fortune to hear G. E. Gowdy, D. D., in his lecture on
Palestine,
with a brief prelude on the
Pyramids of Egypt.
He lectured to a large and critical university audience when here, and his effort was universally acceptable. Doctor Gowdy has a wealth of information at his command and he puts it in an inspiring and attractive way before his hearers.
Miami Valley Chautauqua
F. GILLUM CROMER, PRESIDENT
Rev. Gowdy has had a place on three successive programs at the Miami Valley Chautauqua. All of his lectures have given excellent satisfaction. There is enough of incident and humor in them to keep any audience wide awake.
Piasa Chautauqua Assembly
W. O. PAISLEY, GENERAL MANAGER
Dr. George E. Gowdy made a hit at the Piasa Chautauqua Assembly in both lecture and sermon. What he has to say is from materials gathered at first hands, and he speaks in a clear and forcible manner which holds and pleases his audiences. We were glad to have him with us and recalled him for an extra lecture at the close of his engagement.
Florida Chautauqua
HON. WALLACE BRUCE, MANAGER
Dr. G. E. Gowdy greatly delighted the people of the Florida Chautauqua with his lectures. His able sermon delivered in the great auditorium was highly commended, and is worthy of special mention.

has met with special favor. The Bible history and incidents associated with the cities, lakes, mountains, valleys and rivers of that wonderful country where Christ lived and died, furnish interesting and instructive themes for study. The author of these lectures has visited all places of special interest in the Holy Land, and briefly describes each place as it appears to-day.
Bloomington (Ill.) Chautauqua
JAMES B. SHAW, SUPERINTENDENT
Dr. George E. Gowdy gave me a course of Bible lectures at the State Epworth League Chautauqua in Bloomington. I consider his work very satisfactory, and as the proof of the pudding is in the eating, would be willing to use him again. His style of delivery is very good.
Allerton (Iowa) Chautauqua Assembly
JOHN R. JENISON, SECRETARY
We had Dr. G. E. Gowdy give his first series of Bible lectures at our 1907 Assembly, and all were well pleased. I am glad to testify as to his ability and am sure that no one will make a mistake in employing him.
Rev. Wm. B. Leach, D. D., LL. D
PASTOR SACRAMENTO BLDG. M. E. CHURCH, CHICAGO
I have heard some strong lectures on the evidences of Christianity, but none have impressed me more favorably than those of Dr. G. E. Gowdy. He puts in a rememorable nutshell truths that burn and stick. I wish he could be heard at every Chautauqua in America.
J. W. Bell, Sec'y., Chetek, Wis.
At our last Chautauqua Assembly Dr. G. E. Gowdy gave a course of Bible lectures on
Sacred Places in Palestine,
this being a return engagement. The lectures were so instructive and helpful that we have already asked Dr. Gowdy to take charge of our Bible work next season.
