SIR HUBERT WILKINS
World-Famed Polar Explorer, Scientist and Lecturer … 12 Years in the Arctic 10 Years in the Antarctic
SIR HUBERT WILKINS now is available for lecture engagements, following four years of distinguished service in the Aleutians and Tropical Fields for the Research and Development Branch of the U. S. Army. Few men have addressed such varied audiences in so many different countries. He has spoken before hundreds of popular audiences throughout the English-speaking world and Europe, and before scientific bodies. He is a popular and practiced speaker.
Highlights of a Distinguished Career
Sir Hubert Wilkins has had a most colorful and adventurous career with a long string of notable achievements to his credit. He is a native of Australia. For 30 years Sir Hubert has been busy exploring this planet from the tropics to the temperate zone, from the North Pole to the South. He was a companion of Stefansson and Shackleton on their history-making expeditions. He has commanded seven different expeditions to the polar regions, more than any other living man.
He has spent 12 years in the Arctic and another ten years in the Antarctic. His record includes six FIRSTS. He was the first to discover new land from the air. First to cross the Arctic ocean by airplane. First to land on any ocean and, unaided, walk home. First to fly over the Antarctic continent. First to fly about the North Pole by moonlight in the depths of winter. First and only explorer to use a submarine under the Arctic ice.
Before the age of 40, he had been knighted by the King of England and decorated by the rulers of all the great nations for his scientific achievements and heroic exploits. He has been honored by the leading scientific organizations of the world for his contribution to science and exploration.
In 1941 Sir Hubert made an extensive tour of the Far East as an unofficial observer. For twenty years prior to that time he had visited Europe every year.
