DE
WOLF HOPPER COMIC OPERA COMPANY
T
O most people in the world of Comic Opera, the name of DEWOLF HOPPER and
THE MIKADO
are synonymous. The great American comedian has taken the role of Ko-Ko and made it his very own. Mr. Hopper has been prevailed upon to again revive for the lovers of good theater, this time honored musical and comedy hit of all time with an assisting cast to whom all the singing and acting of a Gilbert and Sullivan Opera is a very sacred tradition.
Co-starred with the great comedian will be Miss Lillian Glaser, prima donna of such musical revivals as
Erminie,
Sweethearts
and more recently
Student Prince.
Miss Glaser will sing the role of Yum-Yum, ward of Ko-Ko, and what a lovely stage picture she will make. Miss Glaser was the Yum-Yum in the West Coast productions of
Mikado
in and around Hollywood with Mr. Hopper as well as in the production last year in Chicago.
The Nanki-Poo will be in the able hands of Bernard Van Hefte, a Chicago tenor who won his spur in concert and oratorio and later in Light Opera and Concert en tour.
The role of Poo-Bah, High Lord Everything Else, is sung and acted by H. C. Howard, well known New York star, late of the
Student Prince
Company. Mr. Howard has had the honor of being selected for a number of Mr. Hopper's Comic Opera Revivals and will be right at home in this great role of Poo-Bah.
The Katisha will be none other than Miss Eileen Hutton, who first played this role with the St. Louis Opera Company over ten years ago. Miss Hutton will be remembered by radio fans as the winner of the National Radio Contest offered by the Kraft Cheese Company for the most perfect Light Opera Voice.
In the same part of
The Mikado
will be Mr. Boris S. Applon, late of Columbia Pictures and the West Coast Production of Grand Hotel. Mr. Applon played
Mikado
in a recent Chicago Revival.
Others in the cast will be: Maurice Cherest as Fish-Tush, Laura Butts as Peep-Bo and Maria Matyas, rising young star of the Chicago Civic Opera Company as Pitti-Sing.
Mr. Hugo Brandt will handle the musical score and the entire production is under the direction of Mr. Howard Tooley, well known producer and stage director.
The company will be elaborately costumed with special scenery and lighting effects, a real treat for the theatre patron.
Also Included in Repertoire of the DeWolfe Hopper Comic Opera Company, will be H. M. S. Pinafore and
The Play of Robin and Marion
