THE DEMILLE QUARTET
An Offering of Unusual Merit
CANADIANS ALL, residents of Toronto, the musical center of the Dominion, where they have established an enviable reputation by their peerless ensemble work. Chautauqua and the Lyceum do not boast of a Quartet with a finer record. None is more fully equipped to please the connoisseur.
Aside from the solo work of their accompanist, their offerings are purely vocal. Accessories are not needed to bolster up their work.
Everything, including uniformity in dress, is kept at the highest notch of excellence.
The repertoire of the Quartet includes selections from the great oratorios and operas; the choicest of the English, Scotch and Irish melodies; standard and popular songs.
Not alone as a Quartet do they excel, but in concerts, recitals, oratorios and operas, each individual member stands distinct, having been accorded marked recognition because of his virtuosity.
Each member of the Quartet appears as a soloist, presenting the best the ancient and modern composers have produced.
The accompanist is a distinct artist in her individual piano work, which is marked by unaccustomed brilliancy and power.
THE DEMILLE QUARTET
Supreme in Personnel—Superb in Repertoire
PERSONNEL
HARTWELL DEMILLE
has earned a Continental reputation as a high class vocalist, and is recognized as one of the most brilliant baritones before the public. There is a magnetism about his personality that immediately attracts. He has a voice of magnificent quality and marvelous range, and what is still more, he possesses that mysterious and illusive quality which, for want of a better name, we call temperament, which enables him so to identify himself with the genius of the song he is singing that the result is most dramatic. His unlimited repertoire of ballads, modern songs, operatic and oratorio selections, and the old folk songs of Scotland and Ireland, coupled with his vast experience, make him a Chautauqua and a Lyceum attraction that cannot be surpassed.
W. EDMUND CAPPS
possesses a voice of beautiful lyric quality. It reveals vibrant and wonderful dramatic expression, enabling him to render, with noteworthy ease, modern songs, or the most taxing arias from opera and oratorio. His voice is marked by extreme smoothness of tone to the highest notes. Among his most popular selections have been The Death of Nelson, and selections from Celeste, Aida and Verdi. He possesses a tenor voice of unusual quality which he has under perfect control. He never fails to sing his way into the hearts of his audience.
GLADSTONE BROWN
whose rich, vibrant and sympathetic tenor voice has attracted so much attention, sings with a fine appreciation of vocal and temperamental possibilities. Too much praise cannot be given to this artist. In oratorio and opera he has soared to heights of virtuosity. He has a truly magnificent robust tenor of great range and marvelous quality. He has attracted particular attention by his unusually high grade work in the role of Faust and other similar parts.
ALFRED J. ATKINSON
is one of the most wonderful basso profundos in Canada, and meets with tremendous success at every appearance. His voice is musical and resonant. He sings low A below the lowest C as usually taken by basso profundos. He is unsurpassed in his rendition of The Dwarf, Asleep in the Deep, and similar basso selections. It is doubtful if there is his equal in Canada, and few surpass him anywhere.
MISS HILDA BUCKINGHAM
is a brilliant young pianist, a splendid musician of solid attainments, displaying technical skill and a wealth of temperament. She is a graduate of Toronto Conservatory of Music, and is an accompanist of remarkable ability and experience.

A Few Comments
Toronto Star.
Mr. Capps, in his songs, showed admirable conception to pianissimo and forte passages with his much-envied tenor voice.
Toronoto Mail and Empire.
Mr. Capps' second group included two Italian numbers, Caro Mio Ben and La Donna è Mobile. The first number was sung with noteworthy ease and expression, and the final number showed his fine dramatic voice at its best.
The Elmvale Lance.
Mr. DeMille is without doubt one of the premier baritone singers of Canada, and certainly among the best ever heard in this vicinity. His powerful, rich voice quite enraptured the large audience and drew forth much applause, to which he was compelled to respond with numerous encore numbers.
Toronto Daily Star.
Mr. DcMille sang with hurricane of power and yet without the sacrifice of any important point.
Bolton Enterprise.
One felt most the power of Mr. DeMille's splendid voice in Alone in the Desert. As he sang, it gave one the hot kiss of the simoon, and made him see the narrowing circle of the waiting vulture.
Guelph Herald.
Mr. Brown captured the hearts of the audience in his very first song. He has a sweet tenor voice of great range and sings with great vim. His first number was Lend Me Your Aid; it was rendered superbly, and gave Mr. Brown ample scope to show the great range of his wonderful voice.
Kitchener News.
Mr. Brown is a real tenor with a deligtfully sweet voice.
Stouffville Press.
Mr. Atkinson created an excellent impression with his powerful basso and added to his standing as a singer of merit.

Miss Hilda Buckingham, pianist, plays with a delightful musical understanding and admirable technique.
