DONALD F. EBRIGHT
DONALD F. EBRIGHT
spent six interesting and exciting years in India as an American teacher. He left India February 5, 1942, on a freighter and arrived in New York in early April, after fifty harrowing days dodging submarines and torpedoes. His ship was twice reported
sunk
by Tokyo. En route to United States they made stops at Durban, Capetown and Trinidad. Among those on board were many interesting personalities—A. V. G. pilots, Burma Road truck drivers, American business executives, American sailors, and also one of the world's richest men—Sir Victor Sassoon. Of course, Ebright met and talked with them.
During the time he was in India, Donald Ebright was a lecturer in Lucknow Christian College, Lucknow, U. P., dean of the U. P. Youth Camp from 1936-1942; Acting Chaplain to the British troops, Cawnpore Garrison, until 1942. While his work took him from Kashmir to Hyderabad, he lived some of the time in Cawnpore, U. P., the great industrial city of northern India.
As an unofficial observer, he met and talked with people in all walks of life. He had interviews with Nehru, important Mohammedan leaders, and Indian native princes. He has first-hand knowledge of what has taken place in India during these critical years.
A native of Kansas, Mr. Ebright got his B.A. degree from Baker University, his B.D. degree from Drew University; his M.A. from Hartford Seminary Foundation; Urdu Certificate, Landour Language School, Mussoorie, India. At present he is a fellow at the University of Chicago, specializing in anthropology.
Mr. Ebright's success on the platform has been phenomenal.

INDIA IN THE SPOTLIGHT
INDIA AS AN AREA OF CULTURAL CHANGE
TREKKING WITH A FAMILY IN KASHMIR VALLEYS
Highest Praise for Mr. Ebright as a Speaker
University of Pennsylvania Christian Association, Howard A. Brettle
A very fair presentation of the Indian situation as it is today. Mr. Ebright won our critical college group by a mastery of the Indian problems and his earnestness and humor. While not attempting to tell what the people should believe about India he sketched with dramatic clarity the mighty forces sweeping through India.
University of Chicago, The Dames Club, Adele Rice Sharpe
Mr. Ebright's program, India in the Spotlight, was charming and we greatly appreciated his gay, informal manner. His talk was so different that we forgot the Spring Dance and let the orchestra wait as we deluged the speaker with questions.
North Town Kiwanis Club, Chicago, Paul W. Grimes
Mr. Ebright held our members spellbound as they heard more of India in thirty minutes than they could read in a week. He talks with a dramatic punch in a language all can understand. His story of Capetown, Durban and Trinidad in war-time was thrilling.
Ner Tamid Congregation, Chicago, Dr. Benjamin Birnbaum, Rabbi
It was a thought-provoking and stimulating address.
Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, Founder's Day Banquet, Indianapolis Athletic Club, William H. Martindill
The best talk we have had at a state banquet. His story of India is dramatic, exciting and different.
Retail Merchants Assn., Chicago Heights, Ill., Robert J. Johnston, Jr.
Best we have ever had. It was so interesting we could have listened to him all evening.
Hyde Park Lion's Club, Chicago, Harry Green
Best speaker of the year. A new slant on the Indian scene. Vivid flashes of a world at war.
Ray School Parent Teachers Assn., Chicago, Mrs. M. Rodgers
We are getting reverberations on all sides from Mr. Ebright's splendid talk on India. His discussion of India as an area of cultural change was significant.
High School, Wyoming, Ill., Office of Principal
His address on India captured the students. He has humor, sincerity and the facts.
