NEVADA VAN DER VEER CONTRALTO
A VOICE AS NEARLY PERFECT AS IS HUMANLY POSSIBLE—
Worcester (Mass.) Telegram, October 10, 1924.
FESTIVALS
WORCESTER, MASS.
The outstanding features of the singing were the Festival Chorus and the delightful solo work of Nevada Van der Veer. She seemed to possess A VOICE AS NEARLY PERFECT AS IS HUMANLY POSSIBLE. THERE WAS NO FLAW IN HER VOICE, WHICH IS A MOST BEAUTIFUL CONTRALTO.—
Worcester Telegram, October 10, 1924.
TORONTO, CANADA.

Toronto Globe, March 14, 1925.
FITCHBURG, MASS.
Nevada Van der Veer BECAME AN IMMEDIATE FAVORITE WITH THE AUDIENCE. Seldom has Fitchburg heard a better contralto. THE BEAUTY OF HER TONE PRODUCTION, THE EXCELLENCE OF HER DICTION, THE FULL CONTROL OF HER VOCAL ACQUIREMENTS AND HER PLEASING STAGE PRESENCE MADE HER A DELIGHTFUL ADDITION TO THE WORTHY LIST OF ARTISTS WHO HAVE APPEARED IN THIS CITY.—
Fitchburg Daily, April 21, 1925.
CINCINNATI, O. (BIENNIAL).
Madame Van der Veer SANG EMOTIONALLY AND WITH BEAUTIFUL VOICE.—
Cincinnati Times-Star, May 6, 1925.
Nevada Van der Veer, who sang the part formerly assigned to Matzenauer, REVEALED A LUSCIOUS CONTRALTO, WHICH SHE USES WITH THE UTMOST ARTISTRY, AND IS A SINGER WHO IS DECIDEDLY AN ACQUISITION TO THE ROSTER OF THE FESTIVAL ARTISTS.—
Cincinnati Post, May 6, 1925
Nevada Van der Veer REVEALED A VOICE OF DEPTH AND PURITY, UNDER ADMIRABLE CONTROL, and sympathetically attuned to the ethereal nature of the music. With John McCormack she sang entrancingly.
Cincinnati Enquirer, May 6, 1925.
HER'S WAS A SPLENDID PERFORMANCE. The music is taxing for any singer. Its demands in the matter of range are almost superhuman. MME. VAN DER VEER HAS ONE OF THE FEW VOICES CAPABLE OF HANDLING THE MUSIC. She sang with impressive emotional effect, PROVIDING SOME OF THE MOST THRILLING MOMENTS OF THE EVENING.—
Cincinnati Commercial Tribune, May 6, 1925.
ORATORIOS
BOSTON (HANDEL & HAYDN SOCIETY) (MESSIAH).
NEVADA VAN DER VEER HAS SELDOM SUNG MORE BEAUTIFULLY. Her voice was warm, tender and fired in turn. HER SINGING WAS PURE DELIGHT.—
Boston Globe, Dec. 22, 1924.
Among the solos 'He Shall Feed His Flock' gains first place for the simplicity and directness with which Nevada Van der Veer sang the measures. MME. VAN DER VEER SANG WITH BEAUTY OF TONE, WITH JUST EMOTION.—
Boston Transcript, Dec. 22, 1924.
NEW YORK (ORATORIO SOCIETY) (MESSIAH).
Nevada Van der Veer was welcomed as an old acquaintance LONG TRIED AND NEVER FOUND WANTING.—
New York Times, Dec. 26, 1924.
FEW CONTRALTOS POSSESS THE EXPERIENCE IN THE 'MESSIAH' OF NEVADA VAN DER VEER.—
New York Telegram and Evening Mail, Dec. 26, 1924.
DETROIT (SYMPHONY CHOIR AND ORCHESTRA) (MESSIAH).
NEVADA VAN DER VEER CHARMED. All the beauty of 'He Shall Feed His Flock' was offered to the attentive hearers through her efforts.—
Detroit Free Press, Dec. 29, 1924.
PITTSBURGH (MENDELSSOHN CHOIR) (MESSIAH).
Nevada Van der Veer we have heard before, but we cannot say that we have ever heard her as moving as she was in 'He Shall Feed His Flock.' It was ineffably tender and finely sustained. SOMETIMES WE THINK SHE IS THE BEST OF ALL THE ORATORIO CONTRALTOS, AND LAST NIGHT SHE LIVED UP TO THAT OPINION.—
Pittsburgh Post, Dec. 31, 1924.
RECITALS
NEW YORK.
THIS SINGER IS OF HIGH RANK IN THE FIELD OF ORATORIO AND CANTATA. SHE SANG HER PROGRAM WITH A VOICE OF FINE POWER AND RICH QUALITY, especially in the lower registers, and with the intelligence of an artist skilled in the portrayal of varying moods. HER DELIVERY HAD ELOQUENT DECLAMATION, GENUINE SENTIMENT AND A FINE RANGE OF COLOR AND TONE. THE LARGE AUDIENCE INCLUDED MANY NOTABLE SINGERS.—
New York Sun, Jan. 15, 1925.
The recital of Nevada Van der Veer was attended by an audience which found evident pleasure in the singer and her program. HER VERY MELODIOUS AND NATURALLY RICH VOICE ENHANCED TWO LOVELY SONGS BY RICHARD STRAUSS. It carried with surprising effectiveness in Schubert's 'Omnipotence' over an organ obligato and gave the hearers a sense of comfort and security in its EVEN, FLOWING LEGATO. SOME RUSSIAN NUMBERS WITH ENGLISH WORDS CALLED ATTENTION TO THE BEAUTY OF THE LANGUAGE WHEN PROPERLY ARTICULATED.—
New York Times, Jan. 15, 1925.
NEVADA VAN DER VEER ATTRACTED A CAPACITY AUDIENCE. Her work at oratorio events has long been praised. Last night, in the more difficult recital field, SHE DISCLOSED ABILITY IN INTERPRETATION, A BROAD SCOPE OF UNDERSTANDING AND A VOICE OF VELVETY CHARM. Songs in German, and numbers by French, Russian and American composers, SUNG WITH FEELING AND BEAUTY, WERE RECEIVED WITH MUCH ENTHUSIASM.—
New York American, Jan. 15, 1925.
KANSAS CITY.
HER PRINCIPAL RESOURCE IS A BIG, WARM CONTRALTO THAT CONTAINS GOOD HIGH TONES. Those high tones she uses just enough, in such songs as Rachmaninoff's 'In the Silent Night,' to make them seem delightful surprises when they come. She sings very simply, and yet her material is varied and her style far from monotonous. There was a good deal of vocal finesse in some of the smaller pieces she sang.—
Kansas City Times, Jan. 30, 1925.
OPERA
DES MOINES (SAMSON AND DELILAH).
Nevada Van der Veer had a most grateful part, which she SANG IN A STYLE AND WITH VOCAL EQUIPMENT TO BE PROUD OF. HER SINGING OF THE ARIA 'MY HEART AT THY SWEET VOICE' WAS ONE OF THE HIGH POINTS OF THE EVENING. Her voice was very warm and smooth and of ample range to make her audience feel at ease. SHE WAS WARMLY APPLAUDED.—
Des Moines Legislator, March 28, 1925.
DES MOINES SHOULD HEAR VAN DER VEER AGAIN. SHE HAS WITHOUT QUESTION ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CONTRALTO VOICES HEARD HERE IN MANY YEARS. IT IS SOFT, SILKEN AND GORGEOUS IN ITS COLORINGS AND SHADINGS. She sang the songs of spring and invocation to love and made of them mood preludes to the aria, 'My Heart at Thy Sweet Voice.' Her graciousness and personality endeared her to the entire audience and the orchestra and chorus.—
Des Moines Capital, March 28, 1925.
CONNEAUT LAKE, PA. (ELIJAH—STAGE PERFORMANCE IN COSTUME).
Mme. Van der Veer was in superb voice, THE SINGER THE FINEST EXPONENT OF ORATORIO SINGING TODAY, and possessing a contralto of rich beauty.—
Pittsburgh Press, July 17, 1925.
Nevada Van der Veer as the angel and the queen sang her leads gloriously. One pauses to note that SHE SINGS 'O REST IN THE LORD' AS NO OTHER CONTRALTO CAN DO IT.—
Pittsburgh Post, July 17, 1925.
