Figure
Hedda Hopper is Hollywood's busiest and most versatile woman and is considered one of the top gossip purveyors today. The pretty, witty and ambitious Hedda functions as chief potentate of the Hollywood gossip mart, and through her daily syndicated columns and broadcasts now is probably more firmly entrenched in the film colony than in any time in her long acting career. Once one of MGM's brightest satellites, Hedda spent most of her movie career in Hollywood where she became the first best-dressed woman and served for years as its official sophisticated society dame. Miss Hopper has an unquenchable passion for dizzy hats, and hats have become her trademark. Once during a radio program Hedda suggested that listeners might design and send her some nice, new hats … she received 65,000. Now she admits to buying about 150 new ones every year on which she spends more than $5,000. Born of Quaker parents in a Quaker community in Pennsylvania, she ran away from home in her late teens to go on the stage. She is hearty, vivacious and has tremendous energy. Gossip as practiced by Hedda has long been recognized as big business and indispensable in the film colony. Her anecdotes are delightful, scandalous and often true enough to gray the hair of Hollywood's censors.
President Chester R. Davis will preside.
