Biography
ALICE EVERSMAN, a resident of Washington, D. C., received her first musical training at Peabody Conservatory, Baltimore, Md., where her unusual voice won her a scholarship against many contestants. This was supplemented by years of study in Italy under the famous Maestro Sabatini (teacher of John McCormack) and in Germany with Georg Fergusson. Preparation for her concert work was done under Mme. Arthur Nikish, of Leipzig-Berlin, famous coach who trained many celebrities, and Emma Thursby, of New York. To this equipment is added the gifts of an accomplised linguist.
Experience
In her public appearances, Miss Eversman has combined the operatic stage and the concert platform. Besides individual concerts in Europe, a tour of Russia and United States, Miss Eversman has been three seasons with the Chicago Opera Company, two seasons with the Metropolitan, and several times guest artist at the Century, and the San Carlo Opera Company, where her performances of La Gioconda and Aida, were commented upon as memorial occasions to those who heard her.
Miss Eversman's voice is lyric-dramatic with a warmth of tone that lends itself to a variety of expression intensified by forceful interpretation. Her individuality of style, coupled with magnetism, personality and a beautiful stage presence, makes her instantly a favorite with every audience.
Press Comments
Oswego (N.Y.) Daily Palladium:
Mme. Eversman's voice is a rich full dramatic soprano and—rare gift—she uses it as easily as if speaking. When a work is sung to English-speaking people in a foreign language, the artist must have power of perception and skill far beyond the ordinary to make its full meaning apparent. This Mme. Eversman did. In her group of English songs, there was the beautiful added quality of distinct enunciation and the perfect rendering left a sense of enjoyment rarely experienced.
Rome (N.Y.) Daily Sentinel:
From the time that Mme. Eversman's voice was heard, in the first numbers of the program, until she closed the concert, the attention of the audience was held spellbound. Each and every number bespoke the quality, depth of feeling, insight into the theme, and, withal, an interpretation that showed a singer of rare artistic quality.
Auburn (N.Y.) Citizen:
Mme. Eversman apparently has no limit to the range of her voice and last evening's program gave her ample opportunity to test each note. Her voice has great tonal purity, her enunciation is perfect, and so gracious was her personality that she is said to resemble Mem. Fremstadt.
