LESTER M. STEARNS
THIS season Lester M. Stearns, one of the most popular of dramatic lecturers, will present to Lyceum audiences a new lecture-entertainment entitled Shakespeare and Life. In this lecture Mr. Stearns discusses many of those human problems which face men daily, and by scenes from Julius Caesar, Hamlet and The Merchant of Venice, dramatically portrayed, shows how deeply Shakespeare fathomed the depth of human nature and the human soul of to-day as well as of yesterday.
Shakespeare and Life is a lecture that not only inspires and instructs but is fraught with interest. Without a dull moment, Mr. Stearns moves along life's pathway, and in a kaleidoscopic manner illustrates life's meaning by the big moments in some of Shakespeare's most famous dramas. It is a lecture in which humor and tragedy blend in equal proportions.
The Universal Shakespeare
The popularity of Shakespeare, the master poet, has endured for more than three hundred years. His sympathetic understanding of human nature has endeared him to each succeeding generation. Even when the plots of his plays are forgotten, his characters stand out in bold relief. Their virtues and shortcomings possess a universal humanness that makes them live for all time.

Shakespeare and Life
The works of Shakespeare are quoted by thousands of people, many of whom are only slightly familiar with his great compositions; while numberless phrases that have become everyday sayings had their origin in Shakespeare's plays.
The deep interest shown by people of modern times in Shakespeare's writings is a splendid tribute to that man of genius, as well as an evidence that culture and literary learning have become our common heritage through succeeding generations.
A Successor to Father Vaughan
Says Dr. William A. Colledge, Educational Director of the Redpath Bureau:
One of the most inspiring lectures on the Lyceum and Chautauqua platform twenty years ago was Father Vaughan's 'Sermons from Shakespeare.' To the Lyceum and Chautauqua hearer of that period 'Sermons from Shakespeare' was a classic.
Since the death of Father Vaughan, no one has attempted a similar lecture, although committees have often asked for a lecture that would illustrate the vital problems of life, with the intense dramatic ability of a Vaughan and the rich, flowing lines of Shakespeare.
The successor to Father Vaughan on the platform has been found in Mr. Lester M. Stearns, a gentleman of culture, fine dramatic ability and the possessor of a voice that gives color and warmth to the portrayal of every emotion.
Anyone hearing the Stearns lecture, dealing as it does with those spiritual problems that touch human life at all points and illustrated with masterly dramatic ability from intense moments in such plays as 'Julius Caesar,' 'Hamlet' and 'The Merchant of Venice,' will never forget Mr. Stearns' splendid message.
His 'Shakespeare and Life' is worthy of a hearing by every audience throughout our country.

Mr. Stearns' work got across in great shape, for the applause cards from our radio audience mentioned him more frequently than any of the others. He seems to have projected his personality into the microphone and out to the folks who were listening.

One of the most striking features of Mr. Stearns' lecture-entertainment is his amazing voice flexibility, enabling him to conduct a dialogue in such a way that by merely closing the eyes one can really believe that two persons are actually taking part in the dialogue.
