Feature at National Band Clinic
For two consecutive years the Bachman Woodwind Ensemble was honored by being asked to give a program before the leading school band directors of the United States at the National School Band Clinic at the University of Illinois. This recognition stamps the members of this group as authorities on Chamber Music for Woodwind instruments. In writing Mr. Bachman of this appearance, Mr. A. R. McAllister, President of the National School Association, has the following to say:
I want to take this opportunity of telling you how fine your sextette was, and how much it was appreciated by all who heard it. I think I would be safe in saying that the work of this group was one of the major, if not the major, part of the program on account of the importance of the ensemble work this year.
In addition to having appeared twice at the National School Band Clinic, the Bachman group has given demonstrations before the Iowa State Teachers Association, The National Materials Conference in Chicago, and numerous concerts at State Teacher's Colleges and Universities. Comments everywhere have been extremely laudatory.
Programs Are Interesting
The Bachman Woodwind Ensemble presents a type of intimate chamber music which is all too seldom heard. For the most part this music is delicate, gay and whimsical, some of it even verging toward the humorous. Even the more sombre pieces are played with such finesse that they are never monotonous. The programs are skillfully arranged with solos, duets, trios, quintets, and sextettes alternating in selections of such a variety of moods that the concerts, while refined, are never dry. Every audience, whether it be composed of music students or ordinary seekers after entertainment and amusement, will be thoroughly delighted from the first to the last number.
