Chicago Ensemble Trio
THIS TRIO SHOULD WIN A FINE PLACE AMONG THE ENSEMBLES, FOR THEY HAVE SPLENDID PROGRAMS TO OFFER AND AN EXCELLENT MANNER OF PRESENTING THEM.
ADDRESS, 1058 BERWYN AVENUE, CHICAGO
Telephone Edgewater 9212
THE CHICAGO ENSEMBLE TRIO holds a unique and enviable place among organizations of its kind. It really never was organized, it was inevitable. Individually, each member had won the recognition of the public, the press and the profession before their thoroughly agreeable personalities began to draw them into ever-increasing association. Wholesome respect for one another's ability quickly followed, leading in turn to an enduring fellowship. Regular and systematic rehearsals have now followed for more than a year.
Their programs are selected with the keenest judgment and musicianship from works of the highest standard only.
Ensemble songs, as beautiful as they are unfamiliar, have been a special study and inspiration to this trio and many of their numbers are programed for the first time anywhere. Their repertoire in this branch includes everything from a Bach aria to manuscripts written with this particular ensemble in mind.
Violin and piano suites and sonatas from both the old and the modern masters furnish still another charming and not frequented source of ensemble.
To these features are added solo groups by each member, worthy of the individual, the whole making a program unique, varied and of a standard that calls forth genuine enthusiasm.
CHICAGO ENSEMBLE TRIO
Tuesday evening the Chicago Ensemble Trio made its appearance in concert at Fine Arts Building. The personnel of the trio is as follows: Mable Corlew-Smidt, soprano; Lacy Coe, violinist; and Guy Webster, pianist. This trio should win a fine place among the ensembles, for they have splendid programs to offer and an excellent manner of presenting them.

LACY COE VIOLINIST
LACY COE. One of our eminently successful young American violinists whose sterling qualities and high ideals have won him the greatest enthusiasm. He possesses a wonderfully clear and clean technique, entirely adequate to meet the needs of his scholarly interpretations, and the exquisite beauty, breadth and warmth of his tone never fails to reach the hearts of his audience.
Lacy Coe made his second appearance in Streator an emphatic success. He is unquestionably one of the most remarkable young violinists who has ever played here.
Streator (Ill.) Daily Free Press.
Mr. Coe in his violin interpretations demonstrated finished technique, producing all the time the purest and richest tonal effect. His work was exquisite.
Springfield (Ill.) State Journal.
Lacy Coe, a young Chicago violinist, was soloist. He played in brilliant style, disclosing a fluent, secure technique and good tone. His harmonics were much admired.
Milwaukee Sentinel (as soloist, Auditorium Symphony Orchestra).
MABLE CORLEW-SMIDT. A dramatic soprano of the utmost warmth and intensity. She has become one of Chicago's recognized favorites. As a Concert and Oratorio singer Mrs. Smidt has set a standard to which few attain. Her wonderful voice with a range of three octaves, her tone of penetrating loveliness both in fortissimo and pianissimo and her personal charm are merely incidental to her musicianship and her artistic interpretations. Altogether, she is one of the most satisfactory sopranos of which America can boast.
Mrs. Smidt, already a favorite, established herself more firmly than ever in the hearts of her listeners. Mrs. Smidt's voice is so beautiful and her delivery so perfect, words seem useless to attempt to express the real sense of enjoyment that is felt when she sings.
Streator (Ill.) Daily Free Press.
Mrs. Corlew Smidt's tone was of penetrating loveliness. Her enunciation, her interpretive ideas, her sense of 'putting it over' were admirable traits.
Chicago Tribune.
Mrs. Mable Corlew Smidt sang the Micaela aria from 'Carmen' with lovely tone color and quality. The soprano timbre of her voice is particularly ingratiating. Mezzo-voce passages were given with much charm and in the big forte moments the voice never lost its smoothness.
Chicago American.
GUY WEBSTER has long been one of Chicago's recognized organists and accompanists. He was formerly director and organist of St. Andrews Church and now holds that position in Trinity Episcopal Church of Highland Park. Accompaning to him is an art. His services are in constant demand and his assistance in programs by the various artists and clubs never fails to command special mention. His ensemble work is characterized by brilliance, poise and authority and his solo work is of the highest order.
Mr. Webster, who is not only a brilliant pianist but an organist of much ability, proved his splendid musicianship in his interpretation of well-arranged numbers. He is a young man of attractive personality and made a splendid impression.
Streator (Ill.) Daily Free Press.
Guy Webster, organist, made an excellent impression.
