ELSIE BAKER CONTRALTO
The name of Elsie Baker, her superb singing and radiant personality have thoroughly embedded themselves as an integral part of American life.
This truly remarkable artist combines a voice of velvety smoothness, range and power with a rare soul-satisfying interpretation of every song she sings, whether it be sad or gay; classical or semi-popular.
Miss Baker's versatility of musical expression is unexcelled anywhere and the happiness she is continually bringing to the home through the medium of her many beautiful Victor Talking Machine Records places her, unquestionably, in a most enviable position in the musical life of this country.
For many years constant appearances in concert, oratorio, and with the leading symphony orchestras have carried her into every state of the union. Re-engagements too, have but served to increase her popularity.
These successes have in nowise spoiled Miss Baker and she stands as a splendid type of fine American womanhood risen to musical heights by sterling qualities of mind and character upon which true accomplishment in any walk of life can only be attained.
As a well known musical critic recently remarked, Elsie Baker does not belong to any particular class or locality of this country; rather, she belongs to the nation.
GROVER TILDEN DAVIS COMPOSER-PIANIST
Grover Tilden Davis, the accompanying artist with Miss Baker, is an unusually gifted musician.
Mr. Davis is the composer of many beautiful songs and has had a wide experience as the director of two schools of music, in addition to teaching activities.
As a vocal coach, many well-known artists have studied and performed under his able direction.
He has endeared himself to the American public through the medium of a fine pianistic art, his playing being especially characterized by a sheer beauty of tone and enhanced by a masterful interpretative faculty.
NEARLY TEN THOUSAND CHAUTAUQUAS
Redpath is the standard, the pioneer, the most positive force in the great Lyceum and Chautauqua movement and one of the most potent educational institutions in America today.
Redpath stands for quality, first, last and all the time.
This policy of presenting the best in all forms of entertainment is being consistently observed this season, when through special arrangement, Miss Elsie Baker, celebrated American contralto and Mr. Grover Tilden Davis, Composer-Pianist will be presented in a program of exceptional musical interest.
In 1867 James Redpath conceived the idea of systematizing the Lyceum. With that idea in view he founded the Redpath Lyceum Bureau, the first Lyceum and Chautauqua Bureau in America. In 1905 Keith Vawter originated the circuit Chautauqua idea.
Redpath offices are in Boston, New York City, White Plains, Rochester, Pittsburg, Columbus, Chicago, Birmingham, Kansas City, Denver, Cedar Rapids, Los Angeles.
The Lyceum work for New York and New England is managed by Mr. G. LeRoy Collins. Associations, Committees and individuals wishing to consider Lyceum Courses or a speaker or a concert attraction for a special occasion please address:—Redpath Lyceum Bureau, G. LeRoy Collins, Manager, Commerce Building, Rochester, N. Y.
The work of the New York City Office is devoted largely to the production of plays and operas for the various Redpath Circuits and for the Lyceum Courses. Mr. William J. Keighley is General Stage Director.
The Eastern Executive Offices are in White Plains where Mr. Crawford A. Peffer, General Manager, is located. White Plains is twenty-three miles north of New York City, on the Harlem Division of the New York Central Railroad.
