Why BROOKS FLETCHER was Drafted for Congress
Who He Is and What He Stands For
Figure
BROOKS FLETCHER
WHEN YOU READ THIS YOU WILL UNDERSTAND
Brooks Fletcher, long a resident of Marion County, former editor and publisher of the Marion, Ohio, Tribune, unanimously indorsed by both Central and Executive Committees, Marion Democratic Club, the Democratic Women's Club, and leading democrats of Marion County, has been drafted for Congress because he is recognized as the outstanding democrat who can sweep the Eighth District for Democratic victory at the coming election.
For thirteen years Brooks Fletcher, who lives at 234 Thew Avenue, has been a citizen of Marion County.
In the thirteen years Mr. Fletcher has lived in Marion he has been a tireless worker for the Democratic Party, not only in the county, but throughout the state and throughout the nation where he has spoken for democratic issues and democratic candidates in national political campaigns.
He has been a life-long democrat always generously giving the services of his Marion newspaper and his personal service on the platform to help elect loyal democrats to office, but always he has refused to accept any office for himself.
BROOKS FLETCHER TALKED OF FOR GOVERNOR
Brooks Fletcher's Marion County neighbors have, in his many years of residence in Marion, urged that he become a candidate for office.
Several years ago he was discussed in the newspapers and political circles as a possible candidate for Governor.
Four years ago he was indorsed by the Democratic Organization of Marion County as a candidate in the primaries for United States Senator, but instead of entering the primary contest for the United States Senatorship he devoted all of his time campaigning in the presidential fight for Governor Cox.
LEADING DEMOCRATS SUPPORTING BROOKS FLETCHER
Attorney Fred E. Guthery, one of the big men of the Democratic Party in this District, former nominee for Congress, recently, in introducing Brooks Fletcher, of Marion, to an audience of prominent Democrats representing all the counties in the Eighth District, highly commended the work Fletcher has done for the Democratic Party in Marion County and throughout the state.
Among the prominent men who are supporting Brooks Fletcher for Congress none have the confidence of the entire Eighth District to a greater degree than Attorney Fred E. Guthery, who has been Brooks Fletcher's warm friend and neighbor in Marion during the thirteen years he has been a citizen and a democratic worker of Marion County.
Because of Mr. Fletcher's national reputation for fighting in behalf of great issues in the interest of the welfare of the people great leaders of all parties in all parts of the United States where he is known are interested in the efforts of those backing him for Congress to be voted upon at the primaries August 12.
BROOKS FLETCHER IN THE EYES OF GREAT AMERICANS
The following is what William Jennings Bryan and Judge Ben B. Lindsey and other great Americans think of Brooks Fletcher and the things he has stood for and fought for:
THE OPINION OF JUDGE BEN B. LINDSEY
Judge Ben B. Lindsey, world-famed Juvenile Court Judge, says of Brooks Fletcher:
In all my acquaintance with public men I do not know one who has done more than Brooks Fletcher has done to advance the cause of good government and especially the rights of those men and children of the Republic who have been victims of injustice in our civilization.
Brooks Fletcher knows America as few men know it. In every state is the Union I find the people know him and have heard him again and again.
In a political campaign he will sweep the state for he knows crowds. He knows the people and their personal problems because he is of the people.
Many of the greatest of the Nation's leaders are his personal friends.
He would have the advantage of going to the United States Congress with a reputation that is already nation-wide.
The work he has done among the children of the public schools of the country is alone sufficient to give him national recognition. The young people worship and love him.
To my mind Thomas Brooks Fletcher is one of the most hopeful, brilliant, powerful men in our public life today.
Fletcher has magnetism, personality and the gifts for leadership and when elected he will be a credit to the State of Ohio, a credit to his people and a credit to the Nation.
DR. ALBERT E. WIGGAM'S OPINION
Writing of Brooks Fletcher's personality Dr. Albert E. Wiggam, famous author and educator, said:
I have talked with Brooks Fletcher of science, of art, of adventure, of business, of literature, of politics, of philosophy.
The wide range of his reading, the immensity of his interest, the sympathies of his heart, the clearness of his estimates of men and issues, the accurate scholarly insight he has into the processes of society, business and industry and the lion-like courage that is in him were some of the immense inspirations that I carried away with me.
If you Ohio folks send Brooks Fletcher to the United States Congress he will be not merely the Ohio Congressman; he will be Thomas Brooks Fletcher, Congressman
FOR
the United States
FROM OHIO.
THE OPINION OF MONTAVILLE FLOWERS
Montaville Flowers, who was one of the leading Progressive Party Organizers for Theodore Roosevelt, when he heard that Brooks Fletcher had been persuaded to enter politics, wrote:
I have sat in Brooks Fletcher's audience and seen his philosophy of service hold spellbound a thousand children for an hour and a half and grip a thousand business men with new visions of purpose and happiness.
Thomas Brooks Fletcher for political leadership in Ohio! Give keen-eyed, clear-headed, strong-willed and fighting, hard-hitting fine young American the agency of political power and he will bring new glory to the State of Ohio, whose history scintillates with the achievements of great men.
THE TRIBUTE BY OPIE READ
Opie Read, the celebrated author and platformist, in expressing his pleasure on hearing of Brooks Fletcher's indorsement, said:
If Brooks Fletcher is sent to the United States Congress, intelligence will be complimented and the statesmanship of the elder day will be re-established.
Brooks Fletcher is not only a great orator, but out of his profound nature arises statesmanship.
By sending him to Congress, Ohio will draw about her shapely shoulders the mantle of honor.
WILLIAM JENNINGS BRYAN AND THOMAS BROOKS FLETCHER
In the college text book on Public Speaking, by Dr. Frank C. Lockwood, used by the students in high schools, colleges, and universities everywhere, Brooks Fletcher is classed with W. J. Bryan as one of the ten greatest orators in America.
Among the distinguished public men from all over the country who have paid tribute to Brooks Fletcher none have been more cordial in their appreciation than William Jennings Bryan, who was among the first to congratulate him on his being unanimously indorsed for Congress.
WITH FLETCHER THE DEMOCRATS CAN WIN
With men like John W. Davis for President of the United States and Governor Charles Bryan for Vice President, it is very important that we send to Washington to support them such mer as Fletcher.
In Fletcher the Democrats have the greatest chance for a landslide victory they have ever had within the past twenty-five years.
You have been wanting upstanding, straight out-and-out Americans who have devoted their lives to fighting for true Democratic principles to represent you in politics and in Thomas Brooks Fletcher you have just that kind of a man.
When you select Fletcher to represent you in Washington you will have a real Congressman from the Eighth District, who has the brains, the scholarship, the experience, the character and the national reputation for achievement to make a record for you in which the State of Ohio and the entire nation will take pride.
In Brooks Fletcher you have the kind of man you long have been waiting for. It now is entirely up to you men and women voters at the ballot box in the primary election, Tuesday, August 12.
The Marion County Central and Executive Committees, the Marion County Democratic Club and the Democratic Women's Club, in their enthusiastic and unanimous indorsement of Brooks Fletcher recognized his life-long devotion to the principles of the Democratic Party and his outstanding ability for leadership.
All the leading Democrats of Marion County, both men and women, who have known Brooks Fletcher as their neighbor in Marion during the thirteen years he has lived in Marion County, are back of him solid.
With Brooks Fletcher nominated at the primary election Tuesday, August 12th, the Democrats have the greaest opportunity for overwhelming victory at the coming election that they have ever had within the past twenty-five years, is the statement of Democratic leaders who have fought the battles for Democracy in all the campaigns of the past.
