IN COLLEGE DAYS
Mr. Shaw graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1907. His scholastic work was of high order and his activities and interests were intensive and varied. He majored both in History and Oratory and minored in English and Political and Social Science, having had thirty-two courses in these departments. He led Ohio Wesleyan debating teams which defeated Kenyon College and Colgate University and also took honors in Oratory. This forensic work led to his election to the National Honorary Society of Delta Sigma Rho. During his college days he was also President of the Prohibition League and of his Literary Society, and member of the Y. M. C. A., Civics Club, Athletic Association, Platform Club, Debate and Oratory Council and other organizations.
He later gave two years to graduate work in History and Political and Social Science in further preparation for teaching and lecture work and for part of this work he was granted the M. A. Degree.
IN UNIVERSITY HALLS
He taught Public Speaking one year in Ohio Wesleyan University at Delaware, Ohio, resigning there to take up his work as Professor of Public Speaking and Dean of the School of Oratory at Kansas Wesleyan University. During the two years there, the courses were enlarged, the enrollment doubled, and many victories won in intercollegiate debate and oratorical contests.
Two years were then spent in the College of Commerce of the same University, where large classes in Public Speaking, Salesmanship and Advertising, and Business English were under Professor Shaw's instruction. Here he was also elected Dean and had executive and administration work in the school of seven hundred students, the largest school of the University.
ON THE LECTURE PLATFORM
Mr. Shaw has been known not only in the teaching profession but is nationally known as a lecturer. He gives to the lecture platform a rich and varied experience. His training has fitted him for this work and has made him a speaker of unusual ability. After 1907 he delivered Sunday addresses for the Prohibition State Committee of Michigan, going into churches in all parts of the state during his five years residence in that state.
During the summer of 1914 he became Field Secretory for the Prohibition State Committee of Ohio and in August was elected to the State Chairmanship which he held for two years, delivering addresses in four hundred towns and cities and employing and managing twelve other speakers and directing the work of the state headquarters.
During the teaching years in Kansas, more than three hundred outside platform addresses were given. Calls for popular lectures, religious and civic addresses, commencement addresses, took him into all parts of the state. Perhaps no speaker in the state was in greater demand.
During the past sixteen years he has given more than three thousand public addresses on religious, civic and educational subjects. During the past five years he has spoken in more than three hundred High Schools and in more than three hundred Normal Schools, Teachers' Colleges, Colleges and Universities and has taught and given addresses in Epworth League Institutes.
CIVIC AND CHURCH WORK
After some years given to teaching, Mr. Shaw held, in turn, the positions of Financial Secretary, Business Secretary, Executive Secretary and National Lecturer of the Intercollegiate Prohibition Asociation, leaving that organization after three years to become for several years Director of College Conferences for the Commission of Life Service of the Methodist Episcopal Church. In this capacity he had charge of scheduling, promoting, organizing and directing from sixty to ninety three day college life service conferences each year, in all of which some seventy
or more church leaders were used annually. In this connection he was also Executive Secretary of the Joint Committee on Older Boy's or Junior Layman Conferences, a committee representing the Commission on Life Service, the Board of Epworth League and the Board of Sunday Schools and which had charge of all the Older Boys' Conferences in Methodism.
AUTHOR AND PUBLISHER
He is the author of several books which had had a combined sale of close to a half million copies, these being The Curse of Drink or Stories of Hell's Commerce, 1909; Patriotic Temperance Songs, 1910; At the Parting of the Ways, 1911; The Man of Galilee, 1912; Brains, Dollars and Progress, 1923; The Love Affairs of Washington and Lincoln, 1923; The Conquest of the Southwest, 1924; Prohibition Going or Coming?, 1924. He has also written numerous periodical and magazine articles.
Since 1907 Mr. Shaw has been President of Shaw Publishing Company which was organized that year to continue the business of S. B. Shaw, Publisher, which had been established in 1893. The firm has published more than thirty books which have had a combined sale of more than a million copies. Eight of these books are Mr. Shaw's books above mentioned. Nine are by his father, Rev. S. B. Shaw, and some twenty are by various other writers. In addition to these publications, the firm has wholesaled a large line of several hundred kinds of books and Bibles of other publishing houses and more than a million of these have been sold. Since the firm was established, more than two million books and Bibles have been sold through more than seven thousand full time or spare time representatives who have worked at various times for longer or shorter periods. Many of these have been students who worked their way through college by canvassing during spare hours and during summer vacations.

COMMENTS ON PLATFORM WORK
1. From the Press.
THE CORNELLIAN, CORNELL COLLEGE, MOUNT VERNON, IOWA. (1922) Mr. Shaw gave one of the interesting chapel talks of the year when he expressed the need of Christian college students in the business and educational world. Fools, Wisemen, and College Students, was discussed in the evening at the Methodist church. His wit, vigor and punch held the closest attention of the entire congregation throughout the whole evening.
THE CORNELLIAN, CORNELL COLLEGE, MOUNT VERNON, IOWA. (1923). Mr. Shaw's short, snappy chapel talk was well received. Half of the entire student body returned in the evening to hear more. He is an able speaker. With live illustrations from experience he holds the interest of the critical American student body and with interesting facts he proves the worth of his message.
THE BERWYN BEACON, BERWYN, ILLINOIS. Elton R. Shaw of Berwyn was the speaker at the last regular meeting of the local Legion post. The post is again grateful to Mr. Shaw, and recalls with pleasure his talk of a year or so ago. He is a rapid fire speaker, armed with facts and an amazing store of figures to prove his points—the kind of a speaker who appeals greatly to our own young men. He talks fast and says something.

THE DYNAMO, MT. UNION COLLEGE, ALLIANCE, OHIO. It was one of our most interesting chapel speeches of the year. His oratorical ability combined with his clever illustrations not only made an interesting address but emphasized the seriousness of the election this fall. Mr. Shaw's humorous illustrations and oratorical ability made a live topic out of this much worn subject and sent some facts home.

last evening in the auditorium of the First Presbyterian Church at Ashland, Wisconsin. He gave the good sized audience which greeted him, much food for thought. He developed his subject well, and held his crowd spell-bound from the beginning until the end of his lecture, pouring out facts, statistics and the like so interspersed with humor and human interest as to make these usually dry and uninteresting, though important, things pulsate with life and interest.
JANESVILLE DAILY GAZETTE

Professor Elton R. Shaw of Chicago has become a great favorite in Dodgeville as a result of his two addresses in local churches on Sunday. He is a fine entertainer, and also has something important to say.
LA GRANGE CITIZEN, LA GRANGE, ILLINOIS. With a large number of statistics that were not dry, with a philosophy that was genial and human, with a civic challenge that was timely, Professor Elton R. Shaw of the Intercollegiate Civic Association lectured in the Congregational Church last Friday evening. His subject, Eating, Earning, Loving, Learning, gave him a theme of wide possibilities, all of which he made the best. With spicy illustration he forcefully presented his various appeals in a way which won the hearts of all his hearers. THE RACQUET, STATE NORMAL SCHOOL, LA CROSSE, WISCONSIN. Last Monday morning during the assembly period the students had the privilege of listening to Elton R. Shaw of the Intercollegiate Civic Association, who spoke on the subject, Where do we

THE LAWRENTIAN, LAWRENCE COLLEGE, APPLETON, WISCONSIN. A whirlwind combination of originality plus versatile personality characterized the three appearances of Elton R. He plunged at once into a talk that secured immediate contact with his listeners, and kept them with him through thirty minutes of statistics and stories.
DAILY CITIZEN, BEAVER DAM, WISCONSIN.
Professor Elton Raymond Shaw gave a most interesting and entertaining lecture last evening at the First Baptist Church on the subject, Eating, Earning, Loving, Learning. It was a shame that every citizen in Beaver Dam did not hear that wonderful lecture. This lecture while of a serious and instructive nature was interspersed with the keenest of wit and humor. Both young and old were charmed with his message.
PLYMOUTH REVIEW. PLYMOUTH, WISCONSIN.
In a vigorous address replete with telling points, Professor Elton R. Shaw kept an audience at the Congregational Church Saturday evening attentive and interested.
II. From the Educators
LEE WELLS MILLARD, PRESIDENT AND MANAGER, THE NORTH-WESTERN SCHOOL FOR STAMMERERS, MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN. The lecture given by Prof. Elton R. Shaw, was very up-to-date and beneficial to our students. Mr. Shaw had the audience spell-bound during the lecture. The scope of work which he is doing is indispensible among the student body of America and should receive the unstinted support of every one in favor of high morals, clean living and a greater American Nation.
PROFESSOR E. A. OVERTON, CHAIRMAN GENERAL COMMITTEE ON LIFE SERVICE, MISSOURI WESLEYAN COLLEGE, CAMERON, MISSOURI. Mr. Elton R. Shaw made our college a brief visit on December 13 and 14. I want to take this occasion to say to you how fine was the response which his work elicited on both of these occasions. Besides speaking at the college, he spoke also at the high school. We had the most favorable comments from both the principal and students. Dr. Shaw's personality, viewpoint, training and experience render his appeal to college men and women a very strong one. I do not recall having known anyone whose qualifications would render him superior to Dr. Shaw for Life Service work with young people.
WILLIAM URBAN, PRINCIPAL, SHEB O Y G A N HIGH SCHOOL. I am pleased to state that Professor Elton R. Shaw gave two very interesting talks to the morning and afternoon student groups of our high school. His topic was timely, full of real facts and interesting figures. His appeals for thrift, obedience to law, good citizenship are bound to benefit all thinking girls and boys. We appreciate very much having had Professor Shaw with us, and heartily recommend that he continue his good work within the schools of the country.
CARROLL G. PEARSE, PRESIDENT, STATE NORMAL SCHOOL, MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN. The audience composed of students and members of the faculty, between 800 and 1000, were very much pleased by his address. They were interested in the subject matter and in the suggestions for their personal use which the address gave. Mr. Shaw's personality was good, and his delivery was such that the attention of the assembly was held closely throughout. All of us were pleased with the address.
W. R. BUSSEWITZ, SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS, HORICON, WISCONSIN. I wish to thank you for having arranged the lecture by Elton R. Shaw in our city. He gave an inspirational and instructive talk to the High school students in the afternoon and he had a real message for the adults in the evening. I hope to arrange to have him again sometime in the future.
AUGUST F. FEHLANDT, PROFESSOR OF ECONOMICS AND SOCIOLOGY, RIPON COLLEGE, RIPON WISCONSIN. Professor Elton R. Shaw was well received in his recent addresses here in Ripon. He succeeded admirably in interesting the student body in a subject that is perhaps looked upon as rather hackneyed. Professor Shaw presents his material in a fresh, lively and pointed form, securing the good-will and holding the attention from the beginning. I am convinced that in these messages to college students and to the public generally Professor Shaw is rendering a real service in the present crisis of law enforcement and the present orgy of wasteful expenditure and ruinous self-indulgence.
WILLIAM C. DELAND, PRESIDENT, MILTON COLLEGE, MILTON, WISCONSIN. Professor Elton R. Shaw made a very favorable impression by his recent lecture at Milton College. His use of American history was a surprise to many. He did not alienate either older and conservative thinkers or younger and more radical listeners.

ELLAS COMPTON, DEAN COLLEGE OF WOOSTER, WOOSTER, OHIO. Professor Elton R. Shaw made a favorable impression upon the faculty and students. He presented the plans and arguments of the wets more clearly than they had been presented here by any other, and in a manner to arouse interest in defeating their plans.
CHARLES E. MILLER, PRESIDENT HEIDELBERG UNIVERSITY, TIFFIN, OHIO. I hasten to say that Elton R. Shaw was received very cordially by the students at Heidelberg and I am sure has left a very good impression. We regard him an excellent representative of the Association.

excellent address to our students—brief and to the point.
C. W. CHAMBERLAIN, PRESIDENT DENISON UNIVERSITY, GRANVILLE, OHIO. I was fortunate enough to be present when Professor Shaw spoke in our Chapel in the interest of the Ohio Dry Campaign. I heartily approved of all he said and of his manner of presentation. I am sure that it was well received by our student body. I have nothing but the heartiest appreciation of the same and good words concerning his stay here.

B. W. AYRES, DEAN TAYLOR UNIVERSITY, UPLAND, INDIANA. Elton R. Shaw gave us addresses on two consecutive evenings. Mr. Shaw is a specialist
in this realm and speaks with authority. His address entitled, At the Parting of the Ways, was the strongest presentation we have ever heard of straight forward prohibition method of dealing with the Liquor Traffic. His addresses are fair, logical, candid and earnest.
S. A. WILSON, PROFESSOR GREEK AND LATIN, STERLING COLLEGE, STERLING, KANSAS. Professor Elton R. Shaw gave a number of addresses in Sterling under the auspices of the local I. P. A., one of these being on Sabbath evening to a union meeting filling the largest auditorium in the city. Prof. Shaw's addresses met with whole-hearted acceptance with his audiences here. He is more than a teacher of public speaking competent to speak or to teach to speak the thoughts of others, but he is a clear and strong thinker himself and presents the results of his thought forcefully and convincingly. Those who heard him were sure of the sincerety of the speaker in his cause. Not only that, but his mastery of the subject appealed to the reason and judgment of his hearers so as to gain acceptance of the truth.
EDMUND STANLEY, PRESIDENT FRIENDS UNIVERSITY, WICHITA, KANSAS. Professor Elton R. Shaw addressed our students and friends on prohibition and the present day issues. out of date, but right up to the minute. He is thoroughly conversant with the facts. In addition to this his delivery is very convincing and pleasing. He does not rant nor does he lack animation. His address before the student body was very enthusiastically received and, should be return to Simpson, he would be cordially welcomed by the students and faculty. I feel that I cannot commend Prof. Shaw too highly.
DEAN EARL V. BURDICK, BUENA VISTA COLLEGE, STORM LAKE, IOWA. Professor Elton R. Shaw gave one of his inspiring addresses before the student body of the College recently, and his subject-matter and delivery were both most commendable. He succeeded in holding the interest and attention of the students in a manner which few orators have succeeded in doing. His address was of a serious and convincing nature and yet was judiciously interspersed with wit and humor to such an extent that our students could have listened to him for hours.
PRIN. D. O. MAYNE, SCHOOL OF AGRICULTURE, UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA. Professor Elton R. Shaw gave a splendid address that was greatly appreciated by our student body. I feel very certain that your association will receive utmost approval when represented by such men as Professor Shaw.

DEAN J. F. ARNOLD, CENTRAL UNIVERSITY, UNIVERSITY PARK, IOWA. Professor Elton R. Shaw recently gave two lectures here. Mr. Shaw convinced us that he had mastered his subject. His address entitled, The Tragedy of Reaction, is one of the strongest, most logical, earnest and convincing I ever heard. His lectures were helpful and inspirational to the students and faculty of the institution and we welcome him back any time he can come.
MARY BEAL HOUSEL, DEAN OF WOMEN, PROFESSOR OF AMERICAN LITERATURE, LAWRENCE COLLEGE, APPLETON, WISCONSIN. I was sorry not to have the chance to tell you how splendid the address or lecture was the other night, but now I can add that never has a chapel talk or lecture received so much favorable comment from Lawrence College students. That, I think, is the most complimentary testimony that any one can wish for, since college students hear so many things, and are so very critical.
J. H. AMES, PRESIDENT STATE NORMAL SCHOOL, RIVER FALLS, WISCONSIN. Dr. Shaw's lectures were very much appreciated here both by students and citizens. Dr. Shaw impresses all by his sincere, straightforward presentation of his theme. I consider his lecture to have been a very high value to our students.

SAMUEL PLANTZ, PRESIDENT, LAWRENCE COLLEGE, APPLETON, WISCONSIN. Professor Elton R. Shaw spoke twice in our chapel. I heard him at the chapel service and one evening lecture. JOHN F. SIMS, PRESIDENT, STATE NORMAL SCHOOL, STEVENS POINT, WISCONSIN. Mr. Shaw made a very creditable presentation of your cause. The students were especially pleased and that is saying a great deal.
III. From the Clergymen and Lecturers.

EATON B. FREEMAN, PASTOR, LA GRANGE BAPTIST CHURCH, LA GRANGE, ILLINOIS. The lecture by Professor Elton R. Shaw delivered here at LaGrange, Illinois March 11th before the Civic Mass Meeting assembled for that purpose was one of exceptionally high order. It is seldom one listens
to such a marshalling of facts and figures from so many fields and with such logical sequence and compelling force. There was not one dull moment from begining to end. Professor Shaw has a telling message and one the American people need to hear. He likewise possesses the necessary faculty of getting that message across. I hope he may long remain upon the lecture platform.
J. A. MELROSE, MINISTER, FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, JANESVILLE, WISCONSIN. It gives me pleasure to commend the work which Professor Elton R. Shaw is doing. I listened with pleasure to the three addresses which he delivered in our city, and considered them of very high standard in all respects. His messages were spicy, humorous, constructive and informing, and revealed a background of seriousness, and spiritual and intellectual maturity. I am glad to recommend him because his subjects are most vital, his treatment of them broad and constructive, and his ability to get meaty thought over to a popular audience quite beyond the average.

He impressed me as one well qualified to speak on his subject.
A. R. KLEIN, PASTOR, FIRST M. E. CHURCH, MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN. Professor Elton R. Shaw presented his lecture in a most pleasing, interesting and instructive manner. He opened up a mine of information, usually not discovered in the reading matter of the day. All comments that I heard were very favorable.

ARTHUR E. LEONARD, MINISTER, FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH, LA GRANGE, ILLINOIS. I enjoyed Professor Shaw's lecture and was helped by it. Our people were enthusiastic over it, both the people who think rather deeply, and those who do not think very deeply. Such a lecture must do good wherever it is given. I am glad he came to La Grange.

REV. THOS. H. ADAMS, PASTOR OF FIRST CHURCH OF CHRIST, GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. Mr. Elton R. Shaw delivered an address in the First Church of Christ. The people were captivated with his splendid address. His arguments for world-wide Prohibition, were the best the writer has ever heard, and the opinion of that audience was, It was a winner. His reasoning was sound and sparkled with an expression of a thorough knowledge of the only solution of this giant evil. His fund of information came rolling from his heart and lips, impressing hs hearers of the undeniable fact that Prohibition has in him a champion that is boring his principles into the heads and hearts of those he has an opportunity of addressing. He is a safe man, on a sane proposition, and our platforms and pulpits will be dignified with his presence and personality.

My personal feeling is that it would be impossible for me to recommend Prof. Shaw too highly.
REV. A. R. TOOTHACRE, PASTOR OF THE BAPTIST CHURCH, KENT CITY, MICH. I have heard many interesting and helpful temperance orators, the best of our country, but none present temperance truth more clearly and forcibly than does Mr. Elton
R. Shaw. I have heard ex-Gevernors Hanly, Folk and others. They were good, even grand, but Shaw got down to the fundamental facts as I never heard before. Every community should hear him.
JOHN HOWARD DICKASON, NATIONAL LECTURER, BOARD OF TEMPERANCE AND MORAL WELFARE OF PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. An audience will hear from Mr. Elton Raymond Shaw nothing hackneyed nor stale, whether he be speaking about the Great Reform or any other subject. I consider him one of the strongest, freshest, and most convincing speakers I have ever heard. Fine presence, tactful manner, a great message greatly given—what can be lacking? I am glad to commend him anywhere and always.
VIRGIL G. HINSHAW, CHAIRMAN PROHIBITION NATIONAL COMMITTEE. I regard Elton R. Shaw as the best versed for his age (38) upon the Prohibition issue of all the men in America. truths with power. I heartily commend him to young and old for the real good that he does in stirring hearts and leading lives in to the higher ranges of noble purpose and deed. Pulpit, platform and parlor are graced by his gentlemanliness and messages.
FROM CHARLES R. JONES, MANY YEARS HEAD OF LINCOLN CHAUTAUQUAS. Mr. E. R. Shaw President and Manager of the Shaw Publishing Co., is personally known to me. FROM REV. WILLIAM FROST CRISPIN, D. D., AKRON, OHIO. I heard two lectures by Elton R. Shaw and was well pleased with them. His lectures are highly instructive and convincing. He does good wherever he goes.

In the Wake of the Whirlwind. The Statesmen of the Kingdom. Education of Today and Tomorrow. Christianity and War. Hitting On All Six. Fools, Wise Men and the Rest of Us. Biographical Sketch IN COLLEGE DAYS Mr. A. Degree. IN UNIVERSITY HALLS He taught Public Speaking one year in Ohio Wesleyan University at Delaware, Ohio, resigning there to take up his work as Professor of Public Speaking and Dean of the School of Oratory at Kansas Wesleyan University. ON THE LECTURE PLATFORM Mr. CIVIC AND CHURCH WORK After some years given to teaching, Mr. In this capacity he had charge of scheduling, promoting, organizing and directing from sixty to ninety three day college life service conferences each year, in all of which some seventy or more church leaders were used annually. AUTHOR AND PUBLISHER He is the author of several books which had had a combined sale of close to a half million copies, these being The Curse of Drink or Stories of Hell's Commerce, 1909; Patriotic Temperance Songs, 1910; At the Parting of the Ways, 1911; The Man of Galilee, 1912; Brains, Dollars and Progress, 1923; The Love Affairs of Washington and Lincoln, 1923; The Conquest of the Southwest, 1924; Prohibition Going or Coming?, 1924. NATIONAL AFFILIATIONS Mr Shaw is a member of the honorary fraternity, Delta Sigma Rho, The Methodist Federation for Social Service, The National Association of Teacher's of Speech, The National Temperance Council, The Fellowship of Reconciliation, The Fellowship For a Christian Social Order, The National Academy of Political and Social Science and Honorary Member of the Kiwanis Club in his home city. COMMENTS ON PLATFORM WORK 1. THE CRITERIAN, MISSOURI WESLAYAN COLLEGE, CAMERON, MISSOURI. Dr. Shaw, with his wonderful ability as a speaker combined with his pleasing personality, was really the live wire of the company. THE PANTOGRAPH, BLOOMINGTON, ILLINOIS. Elton Raymond Shaw of Chicago, Secretary, Commission on Life Service of the Methodist Episcopal Church gave an interesting talk to the students of the Wesleyan Unversity yesterday morning. This address was one of the most interesting heard at chapel this year. There was a real message in what he had to say, his thought was clear, his delivery strong and his message carried conviction to the minds of his hearers. THE PIONEER, BIG RAPIDS, MICHIGAN. The lecture by Elton R. Shaw Thursday evening at the First M. E. Church was chuck full of everything worth while; live, humorous and packed with information. THE COLLEGE CHRONICLE, NORTHWESTERN COLLEGE, NAPERVILLE, ILLINOIS. Prof. E. R. Shaw, lecturer on the Intercollegiate Civic Association platform, entertained an appreciative audience last Saturday evening at the College Chapel. The talk was interesting from the viewpoints of both instruction and entertainment. The speaker took an optimistic view of the future and by this means, along with frequent injections of wit and satire, kept his hearers, interested to the end in his soulosophy. THE GETTYSBURGIAN, PENNSYLVANIA COLEGE, GETTYSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA. Elton R. Shaw gave a short snappy talk in chapel Monday on the I. P. A.—its work in the past and its hopes and determinations for the future. His talk was full of humor and vim. JOHN C. CHAPPLE, CHAPPLE PUBLISHING COMPANY, PUBLISHERS THE NATIONAL MAGAZINE. Elton Raymond Shaw gave a very fine lecture last evening in the auditorium of the First Presbyterian Church at Ashland, Wisconsin. JANESVILLE DAILY GAZETTE —Packed full of suggestions for constructive effort was the address of Dr. Elton Shaw given before a union meeting held in the Methodist Church last evening. His topic was Eating, Earning, Loving, Learning, and for an hour he held the large audience to attention while he alternately poured forth facts and statistics concerning his topic, and edified them with quaint philosophy. DODGEVILLE SUN REPUBLICAN—DODGEVILLE, WISCONSIN. His message made such an impression that the Ministerial Association which had sponsored his appearance, is enthusiastic to have him again in La Grange. THE RACQUET, STATE NORMAL SCHOOL, LA CROSSE, WISCONSIN. Last Monday morning during the assembly period the students had the privilege of listening to Elton R. Shaw of the Intercollegiate Civic Association, who spoke on the subject, Where do we go from here? Mr. Shaw gave us one of the peppiest' talks that has been given in school this year. He gave several other addresses in La Crosse. We hope that we may have him with us again. THE LAWRENTIAN, LAWRENCE COLLEGE, APPLETON, WISCONSIN. A whirlwind combination of originality plus versatile personality characterized the three appearances of Elton R. Shaw in Appleton last Wednesday and Thursday. Shaw could have given himself no better advertisement than his talk in chapel Thursday morning, on Where do we go from here? II. From the Educators LEE WELLS MILLARD, PRESIDENT AND MANAGER, THE NORTH-WESTERN SCHOOL FOR STAMMERERS, MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN. JOHN W. HOFFMAN, PRESIDENT OHIO WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY, DELAWARE, OHIO. Mr. Elton R. Shaw made a very fine imprsesion at Ohio Wesleyan. He held the students, and presented his ideal in a very acceptable manner. N. E. BYERS, DEAN BLUFFTON COLLEGE, BLUFFTON, OHIO. Professor Shaw gave a very excellent address to our students—brief and to the point. C. A. E. SMITH, PRESIDENT OHIO NORTHERN UNIVERSITY, ADA, OHIO. Was bright, spicy—had vigor and punch. ALBERT B. STORMS, PRESIDENT BALDWINWALLACE COLLEGE, BEREA, OHIO. Professor E. R. Shaw impressed us very favorably indeed. His address was logical. He is clear and concise, and pleasing as a speaker. I think we have had none who has impressed us more favorably. FROM JOHN F. HARMON, WHILE PRESIDENT OF KANSAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY, SALINA, KANSAS: With unusual pleasure we present to the public the Rev. Elton R. Shaw, professor of Oratory in the Kansas Wesleyan University. He is a thoroughly trained college man, an author whose books have reached a wide circulation, a lecturer who can please and inspire the people to better things and is all together just such a one as we delight to present to our friends. He is clean in life, has high ideals and is working to better humanity. He is worthy of your highest confidence and can be used with great profit to your community. E. L. LAWSON, DEAN DEFIANCE COLLEGE, DEFIANCE, OHIO. Mr. E. R. Shaw was at Defiance recently and made a good impression. He was able to command considerable attention and carried away with him the respect of every one who heard him. B. W. AYRES, DEAN TAYLOR UNIVERSITY, UPLAND, INDIANA. Elton R. Shaw gave us addresses on two consecutive evenings. Mr. Shaw is a specialist in this realm and speaks with authority. We feel that Mr. Shaw is master of the question handled in his address, and we can commend him as a very capable and worthy exponent of the cause of temperance and reform. He handles his subject in a pleasing and masterly manner. DEAN S. M. HADLEY, PENN COLLEGE, OSKALOOSA, IOWA. Mr. Elton R. Shaw spoke before our College body some time since. He gave a strong clear, logical, address. There was a real message in what he had to say, his thought was clear, his delivery strong, and carried convincement to the minds of his hearers. W. C. DENNIS, PUBLIC SPEAKING DEPARTMENT, SIMPSON COLEGE, INDIANOLA, IOWA. Professor Elton R. Shaw was with us here at Simpson College. He spoke on Sunday afternoon and at chapel Monday morning. His address was made up of material not out of date, but right up to the minute. DEAN SAMUEL WEIR, IOWA WESLEYAN COLLEGE, MT. PLEASANT, IOWA. Mr. Shaw gave a very instructive and interesting address. He held the attention of both students and faculty from the beginning and called forth frequent applause. He was earnest, accurate and impressive. DEAN J. S. E. COOPER, PRESIDENT., EVANSVILLE SEMINARY, EVANSVILLE, WISCONSIN. We were very highly pleased with the lectures and the visit of Professor Elton R. Shaw who recently represented the work of the Intercollegiate Civic Association here. His lectures showed an intellectual comprehensive grasp of the subjects handled and the people who heard his were well pleased. Our students were delighted with his personality, and showed their enthusiasm by joining the I. C. A. unanimously. C. G. WADE, PRINCIPAL HIGH SCHOOL, SUPERIOR, WISCONSIN. Professor Shaw's lecture was good. It made a great hit and had a profitable message. LEE C. RASEL. PRINCIPAL HIGH SCHOOL, APPLETON, WISCONSIN. We found Professor Shaw's lecture very interesting and instructive. R. A. BUELL, PRINCIPAL HIGH SCHOOL, MILTON, WISCONSIN. Professor Elton R. Shaw gave a very inspiring and instructive lecture to our high school students. We would certainly be glad to hear Mr. Shaw any number of times. He presents a wealth of valuable material in such entertaining form that even the most unresponsive pupils received it eagerly. E. R. ELLIAN, PRINCIPAL, ASHLAND HIGH SCHOOL, ASHLAND, WISCONSIN. I can truthfully say that the students enjoyed Professor Shaw's talk from the first to the last word. It was educative, instructive, interesting, and entertaining. We look upon it as one of the best lectures given before our students this year. G. H. WILKINSON, PRINCIPAL, HIGH SCHOOL, LA GRANGE, ILLINOIS. Professor Shaw's manner of delivery appealed at once to the high school students and he expressed his thoughts in such a striking way that it was easy to remember the points in his address. He gave us one of the best talks we have ever had, and I am sure that any high school is fortunate in securing an address from him. SAMUEL PLANTZ, PRESIDENT, LAWRENCE COLLEGE, APPLETON, WISCONSIN. Professor Elton R. Shaw spoke twice in our chapel. I heard him at the chapel service and one evening lecture. Both addresses were excellent and well received. He is a good speaker, a man of excellent spirit, and I should say that he represented you exceptionally well. BISHOP CHARLES WESLEY BURNS. Dr. Elton R. Shaw of the Commission on Life Service responded to the Area Secretary's call by wire, delivering to the Conference splendid addresses on Stewardship and Life Service, closing the conference with a memorable epoch-making address on the last evening. It is seldom one listens to such a marshalling of facts and figures from so many fields and with such logical sequence and compelling force. C. L. KOONS, FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, ASHLAND, WISCONSIN. His lecture was really good and enjoyed by all. REV. C. C. ROWLINSON, PASTOR, FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH, LA CROSSE, WISCONSIN. His lecture was filled with interesting facts, interestingly told. WILLIAM LODWICK, MINISTER, FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH, PLATTEVILLE, WISCONSIN. Professor Shaw's addresses were presented in a forcible, impressive manner, and were well received. His talk before the Men's Community Club was especially helpful. THE MINISTERIAL ASSOCIATION OF DODGEVILLE, WISCONSIN would highly recommend Mr. Elton Raymond Shaw as an able speaker and lecturer. His addresses given at three of the churches of this city yesterday were masterful, educational, and highly entertaining. The large audiences present were delighted, and we cannot speak too highly of his work. GWILYN E. JONES First Presbyterian Church W. J. GRIFFITH Plymouth Congregational Church L. E. Hoisington Methodist Episcopal Church J. HART TRUESDALE—PASTOR, RICHARDS MEMORIAL UNITED BRETHREN CHURCH, JANESVILLE, WISCONSIN. In relation to Professor Shaw's lectures in Janesville, I will say that I considered them of high order, packed full of information, and challenge. REVEREND JAMES BLAKE, STEVENS POINT, WISCONSIN. Everyone was delighted with the lecture given by Mr. Elton R. Shaw and with his most pleasing manner. The wealth of information gained on the subject of prohibition and his ready wit made the evening most enjoyable and helpful to adults. A. G. WILSON, PASTOR, CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH, PLYMOUTH, WISCONSIN. Professor Elton R. Shaw gave two lectures in Plymouth. He has a distinct and powerful message and an attractive and convincing method of its expression. He employs the Wendel Phillips method in quality and expression. JOHN REYNOLDS, PASTOR, METHODIST CHURCH, BEAVER DAM, WISCONSIN. We all regard Professor Shaw's lectures as being characterized by great ability and earnestness as well as dealing with timely subjects. C. H. BEALE, GRAND AVENUE CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH, MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN. The people who were present got a good deal more than their money's worth. The lecture of Professor Shaw was a very good one. REV. THOS. M. G. TERRY, DIST. SUPT. COLBY DISTRICT, NORTHWEST KANSAS CONFERENCE. Prof. Elton R. Shaw gave three addresses at our District League Convention. His addresses were scholarly and deeply interesting. He has a strong personality and is very pleasing in his deliivery. Our young people were delighted with his services. Elton R.
