JAMES B. McCRAVY
EVANGELISTIC SINGER
Soloist, Choir Director, Violinist and Personal Worker.
figure
Permanent Address: LAURENS, S. C.
Who is McCravy?
T
HE singing evangelist who is fertile in spiritual comment, a competent soloist and a good leader in song, may be the most desirable helper any Church or Pastor can secure. One of our great denominational leaders agrees with this estimate by saying that it is one of the most important consecrations of talent and one of the most useful ministries the Gospel has at this time.
James B. McCravy possesses those qualities that go to make up the successful evangelistic singer. He has grown up in an atmosphere of consecration and religious activity. After graduating from Furman University, he received further training at Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, where he studied voice and violin under Chicago's foremost teachers. Although still a young man he has sung in many of the out-standing Churches of the Southern Baptist Convention. Numerous opportunities have come for him to enter other fields of musical endeavor, but he has preferred to remain in the work in which God has so richly blessed him. The Florence (S. C.) Daily Times in an editorial comment says,
Mr. McCravy has every right to be a head liner in leading Chautauqua work, but he has elected to answer a higher call, and he is doing a marvelous work in his Master's vineyard.
Those desiring the services of Mr. McCravy may address him at Laurens, S. C.
What Those Who Know Him Say:
Dr. Len G. Broughton, Pastor-elect, First Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Fla.:
Mr. James B. McCravy is one of the best qualified evangelistic singers that I know. He is affable, able and pleasing in every way. His marked ability will be appreciated at once by all who hear him.
He will give utmost satisfaction
to any Pastor, or Church, desiring his services.
Dr. John E. White, Pastor First Baptist Church, Anderson, S. C.:
I know of a number of our evangelistic singers and greatly honor them, but I rank James B. McCravy, an independent Singing Evangelist, at the
Very Top of the list
. He has the intuitions of the soul winner. As a soloist of tender interpretive power he is unsurpassed. As an organizer of Junior Choirs and big chorous work he is a great success.
Dr. H. M. Wharton, Pastor Brantly Church, Baltimore, Md.:
I have had all kinds of singers to assist me in evangelistic meetings, including Ira D. Sankey; and others; yet one of the most genial, patient, helpful and efficient singers I have ever had is my talented friend James B. McCravy. He
is a man of beautiful character, a charming singer, and can make the people sing, whether men, women or children.
Dr. W. J. McGlothlin, President Furman University, Greenville, S. C.:
Mr. McCravy is a graduate of Furman University, while here he made an excellent record as a student and as a Christian man. He is a delightful musician and in his singing of Gospel songs he is able to bring out the emotions which the song was intended by its author to inspire. Engage him for your meeting.
Dr. W. L. Ball, Pastor First Baptist Church, Spartanburg, S. C.:
James B. McCravy is a young man of many rare gifts. He is tremendously effective in his solo work, the organization of Children's Choruses, and as a personal worker among the unsaved. Secure his services for your soul-winning campaign.
Dr. L. M. Roper, Pastor Central Baptist Church, Johnson City, Tenn.:
I have known James B. McCravy all of his life. He sings with unusual tenderness and fervor; he is a skillful, tactful personal worker, and a master of assemblies in a song service. Without reserve, or hesitation, I commend him as
one of the very greatest
Singing
Evangelists that I have ever known, and I have had experience with many.
Dr. Spencer Tunnell, Pastor First Baptist Church, LaGrange, Ga.:
Of all the singing evangelists that have come within the compass of my wide experience, as a preacher of the Gospel,
I prefer to have James B. McCravy
.
Dr. George E Davis, Pastor First Baptist Church, Orangeburg, S. C.:
James B. McCravy completely captivated my people with his splendid solo work. He has a superb lyric baritone of wide range and flexibility.
Rev. I. T. Jacobs, Pastor First Baptist Church, Wheeling, W. Va.:
My people were simply delighted with McCravy; he is a splendid fellow, elegant voice and a very charming personality. His leading in song contributed greatly to the success of the meeting.
Dr. Furman H. Martin, Pastor First Baptist Church, Florence, S. C.:
The Queen of Sheba in commenting on the matchless wonders of King Solomon's Court, exclaimed, 'The Half Has Never Been Told'. This is very much the way I feel toward Jimmie. He is exceptionally fine; fills the bill in every
respect.
If you want the best get McCravy
.
Rev. Sam H. Templeman, Pastor First Baptist Church, Elizabeth City, N. C.:
For six years I was Pastor of Singing Evangelist James B. McCravy, of Laurens, S. C., and it gives me great pleasure to recommend him most heartily to the Brotherhood as a
safe sane and accomplished Gospel Singer
. In addition to possessing a remarkable baritone voice, he is an accomplished violinist.
Dr. John Marvin Dean, Co-Pastor Calvery Baptist Church, New York City:
I was wonderfully impressed with the work of McCravy, and would very much like to have him associated with me regularly in evangelistic work.
Rev. Joel S. Snyder, Pastor First Baptist Church, Fayetteville, N. C.:
James B. McCravy is splendidly endowed in body, voice and temperament for a successful Evangelistic Singer. He wins and holds children and grown people alike, putting into them a happy spirit and getting out of them soulful music.
