KERNON SMITH
Figure
Pianiste : Teacher
Piano, History of Music, Music Appreciation, Theory
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
This is to certify that Miss Kernon Smith has been a teacher in our Music Department for the past three years and we regret very much that she is not to return to us next year. Her work in our school has been highly satisfactory in every way.
Miss Smith has been teaching Piano, History of Music, and Music Appreciation. We consider her a valuable teacher of these subjects. Her work in the department as a whole has been very agreeable and her hearty cooperation has given us a high estimation of her desire to please and her ability in any undertaking.
Regretting that Miss Smith is not to return to us we recommend her to any one desiring a teacher.
Sincerely,
PAUL V. BOMAR, President of Judson College.
JUDSON COLLEGE, Marion, Ala.
TO WHOM CONCERNED:—
Miss Kernon Smith has thaught in Judson College for three years and has been re-elected for the season of 1921–22.
By her ability as a pianist and teacher, by her willingness to co-operate with other, members of the faculty by her untiring energy and intense interest in her work she has filled her place most successfully, and we shall be greatly disappointed should she decide not to return to us for the coming season.
I recommend her heartily, being confident that she will give satisfaction in any position she accepts.
E. L. POWERS, Director of Music—Judson College.
(Answer to a Letter of Inquiry)
Norman Park, Ga.
DEAR SIR:—
Your letter relative to Miss Kernon Smith, received, and I would have written you sooner but have been trying to make some combination so that we might keep Miss Smith.
Miss Smith is, in my judgment, the best music teacher that we have had in Norman Institute during my stay of seven years here. I am anxious to keep her but will be compelled to combine the departments of instrumental and vocal music.
Miss Smith is industrious. When pupils do not come to lessons she locks them up. She works for her department and did not cease to try to build it up. We have the largest number of pupils this year that we have had in many years.
In every respect I consider Miss Smith an excellent teacher and you will be fortunate in securing her services. If I could make other combinations I would, under no circumstances, be willing for her to leave Norman Institute.
With very best wishes, I am,
Sincerely,
J. A. SCOGGIN, President, Norman Institute.
Louisville, Ky., Jun 5th, 1923.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:—
Miss Kernon Smith, of Clinton, Kentucky, was a student of the Louisville Conservatory of Music during the summer session 1922, during which time she studied piano under Mr. Lionel Levinson-Sinclair. Both her teacher and the manager of this Conservatory have only fine things to say of the intelligent work Miss Smith did. She has a wide musical training which contributed largely to the development she made under Mr. Sinclair.
I am glad to answer any inquiries concerning the qualifications of Miss Smith as a musician, and as a teacher of music.
I remain, FREDERIC A. COWLES, Director.
Louisville Conservatory of Music.
CLINTON TEACHER SCORES SUCCESS
From the Marion Times-Standard, Marion, Ala., we take an except from an article descriptive of the concert given by the faculty of Judson's School of Music, of which Miss Kernon Smith, of this place, is a member.
After paying special tribute to the talent of the other teachers who took part, the Times-Standard says: In Miss Smith's playing of several atractive piano numbers, she displayed a musical touch, skillful pedaling and a fine sense of tone value. Her playing of Borodin's 'In the Convent' was particularly charming.
Clinton is proud of the attainments of Miss Smith,
whose skillful playing is equalled by her deep love for music.—
