 performances of classical music were given at the Exposition Auditorium during the four weeks' stay of the Ellery Band that would have reflected the highest credit on the Boston Symphony Orchestra, or in the case of the Grand Opera numbers that fairly rivaled in beauty and expression the finest performance at the famous opera houses of the world.—

 has at the head of his band this year Taddeo di Girolamo, an Italian band master possessing both technic and temperament, and one who is a master of every detail, whose shadings, crescendos, diminuendos and climaxes are wonderfully worked out, and who demands a tonal quality, and imparts a style and grace to his interpretations that make this band one of the most artistic, musicianly and legitimate of organizations of musicians, for musicians, and one of the greatest educational factors for the masses.—

 second part of the Ellery Band's programme last night opened with Schubert's unfinished Symphony in B minor, one of the most difficult of his works.  Throughout it the audience listened breathlessly and at its close burst with one accord into a tremendous volume of applause.  In fact from the first strains of the opening march to the final chords of the Immortal Sextette from Luciadi-Lammerman at the close, the evening was one continued treat to all music lovers.—

 atmosphere felt at the Ellery Band Concerts is that of Europe, for the band and its talented director, Di Girolamo, seem to be impelled in all that they do, by a deep and sincere regard for the highest interest of musical art, yet with all its seriousness of purpose and devotion to high ideals, this band is yet able to dash off a bit of rag-time or the latest popular march or song with a snap and a go which are positively electrical.—

THE
 real superiority of the Ellery Band is not understood until we come to place side by side its works that are most tremendous with those that are most delicate, fragile and flowerlike.  Any band can make a noise, so can a boiler shop; but not every band can take the most exquisite flowers of harmony and hand them to us not only without a bruise, but with their beauties magnified.  This last is what Ellery does with his magnificent band.—
