A Recital by WHERAHIKO RAWEI
A Native Raconteur who fascinates with the witchery of his Word Paintings. Beware of him, lest he start you roaming o'er Southern Seas. Apart from this, he is a fine fellow, and one of my choice friends.
Robert Louis Stevenson.
Uncle Sam's Samoan Islanders
A Recital by WHERAHIKO RAWEI
Several pages could be devoted to the absorbing story of Wherahiko Rawei. It reads like some delightful novel.
In 1850 a night attack on the village of Pipiriki, New Zealand, by British soldiers resulted in the death of Chief Kareopa and his wife, the parents of Rawei. The few days old babe, taken from the arms of his dead mother, was cared for by Colonel Francis of the British Army and mothered by his wife.
Later Colonel Francis returned to England and educated Rawei as his own son, sending him to Rugby and Cambridge and later to one of England's great medical schools.

A Bewitching Story of South Sea Island Life
Educative and Inspirational
Returning to the South Seas, Wherahiko Rawei ministered to the natives of those islands, made famous by the stories of explorers and Robert Louis Stevenson, whose personal friend he was.
Dr. Rawei has previously lectured on the South Seas at famous American Chautauqua Assemblies, and now he is back again with a most entrancing story of Uncle Sam's Samoan Islanders, their Arts, Crafts, Folk Lore, Music and Songs.
This new recital has a beauty and appeal which can not be described, and it will be presented on one of our big Chautauqua Circuits during season 1924.

WHERAHIKO RAWEI
A gentleman of wonderful entertainment talents, who stands out alone in the Lyceum and Chautauqua Field
DR. RAWEI is the product of Modern Christian Culture as contrasted with the primitive condition of his native South Sea home, and a convincing, living, rebuke to the native American who says he has no chance.
Do not get the mistaken idea that he presents a travelogue. On the contary it is a living picture of Polynesian life, in the person of one who has lived it and knows it all experimentally through and through. Dr. Rawei sets before you the wonderful arts, craftsmanship, customs, beliefs and musical talents of the original Polynesian, from the ranks of whom he sprang under educational guidance to his enviable position.
He appears in the native costume, and throughout his recital ingeniously creates the very atmosphere of the South Seas, and reproduces the captivating music and spiritual melodies of the Paradise of the Pacific, making it a program most delightfully different from all others.
This bewitching recital overflows with oratory, wit, humor and pathos, all blended into a finished entertainment classic, that possesses fine educational value to the student of world affairs. We unhesitatingly commend this remarkable man, as an entertainer who is making a very big contribution to a broader and more general culture.
