PRESENTING CHICAGO'S MOST TALENTED FAMILY GROUP
THE JACKSON TRIO
Mrs. Jackson and her two daughters are a ray of hope to the many who feel the impact of frustration, fear and disillusion of the home.

CATHERINE, BETTY LOU and GERTRUDE JACKSON
The Jackson Trio is composed of Mrs. Gertrude Smith Jackson and her two daughters, Catherine and Betty Lou.
Mrs. Jackson received her formal education in the Chicago Public Schools and began her early study of music with her mother, Mary Rose Smith. She later continued her studies with Antoinette Cone Tompkins, Hilbert Stewart, Cleveland Bohnet and Madi Bacon. After receiving special training in choral technique, accompanying, opera coaching and conducting at the American Conservatory, Northwestern University and Roosevelt College, Mrs. Jackson served as head of the music department at Southern Christian Institute.
At present, as head of the Jacksonian Institute of Music, Mrs. Jackson has organized the Imperial Opera Company, comprised of students of Wilson, Roosevelt and other local colleges. They are soon to be heard in several major operas.
Catherine and Betty Lou are graduates of the Chicago Wilson Junior College. After beginning their musical training with their mother they have studied under Esther Goetz Gilliland and Thelma Waide Brown. They are both accomplished vocal and piano soloists.
The repertoire of the Jackson Trio includes instrumental arrangements making it possible for them to perform with one, two or three pianos or a combination of pianos and organ. Their vocal arrangements include solos, duets, and trios. They are particularly skilled in combining vocal and instrument; their versatility has been widely acclaimed.
Some of the featured vocal trios are:
Lift Thine Eyes
—Mendelssohn's Elijah
Summer Time
—Gershwin's Porgy and Bess
Gipsy Song
—Bizet's Carmen
Cradle Song
—Brahms
Also Stephen Foster Melodies and many favorite spirituals. Piano Trios include:
Bach—Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring
Chopin—Polonaise Militaire
Liszt—Hungarian Rhapsodie No. 2
Lecuona—Malaguena
Among the vocal and piano solos are those of Gounod … Schubert … Handel … Burleigh … Reinhold … Dett … Moszkowski … Coleridge Taylor … Chaminade.
*Notes on the various composers and their compositions are given during the programs.
