Press Comments
Vevay, Indiana.
The solo numbers of Mr. Edmund Capps were the most enjoyed on the programme, the audience being most pleased by his rendering of
Nirvana
and
Mother Machree.
—
St. Catharines Standard.
W. Edmund Capps of Toronto, appeared here for the first time, and his excellent and well controlled voice was heard with great pleasure. More of our people should have heard this sterling artist.
Richmond, Indiana.
W. Edmund Capps, First Tenor of the DeMille Quartette, completely captivated his audience with his beautiful Lyric Tenor voice. His rendering of
Mandalay
was faultless.
Conservater, Brampton.
From the commencement of his solo and thruout the evening Mr. Capps fulfilled every demand made upon his musical talent by the programme. His voice is of unusual flexibility and sweetness in the different registers and proved itself equal to the heavy demand made upon it thru the long evening of song.
Globe, Toronto.
Edmund Capps as Nanki-Poo gave general satisfaction, singing with excellent resonance of voice and uncommon plasticity of style. His entrance solo,
A Wandering Minstrel,
with its changing moods, was rendered with a happy realization of the play and the music.
Telegram — Massey Hall.
Mr. Edmund Capps was excellent. His voice has all the silvery smoothness of a true lyric tenor and he sings with delightful ease and purity of tone. One would never suspect the reserve of dramatic intensity he possesses and uses with artistic restraint when the demands of his music stray from the purely lyrical.
Mail & Empire, Toronto.
W. Edmund Capps as Ralph Rackstraw was a delightful offering of pure tenor vocalisation. He is an ideal Gilbert and Sullivan artist. There is a freshness and culture about everything he attempts that eminently design him for work of that standard. The audience hears every word he sings and speaks and this is the first and last necessity. He renders Sullivan's incomparable cadences with never faltering taste and sweetness of tone. His
A Maiden Fair to See
was a matchless love lyric and
Farewell My Own
stirred the emotions of his audience intimately.
