An evzone, not yet at the front, has heard the news of the first Greek victories in Albania. Leaving a village celebration, he enters still in the rhythms of the Kalamatienos and Sirtos. He comes upon an image of the Virgin and prays; later on, with other soldiers he joins in the Cretan War Dance, and as they hear the Hymn to Freedom, the Greek National Anthem, being played in the distance, they march toward the battle front, knowing that no matter what the temporary outcome, Hellas will always rise again, and be spiritually and materially triumphant.
(In this interval Mr. Meeker will play his own compositions.)
