MASON CITY. IOWA
Sept. 21, 1922
Rev. Joe Hanley, Muscatine, Iowa.
My dear
Joe
It is not possible to remunerate anyone financially for an address of this kind and character. I have been a charter member of the Rotary Club at Mason City. We have had splendid speakers. I have attended many District Conferences. I can say to you and I voice the sentiments of others, that your address was so good, so apropos as to be the peer of all others that it has been our good fortune to listen to. I express to you the appreciation of the entire gathering, of the Board of Directors of the Mason City Rotary Club, and that of myself.
Again thanking you, and with the very best of personal wishes, I am
Yours sincerely,
E. L. BALZ Chairman Program Committee.

What the Home Folks say: —
It is doubtful if any native son of Muscatine has the pleasure of appearing before a larger number of hearers in a year's time than Mr. Hanley. Large crowds face him when he appears upon the chautauqua platform. He is frequently invited to appear before civic clubs, and responds to many invitations to speak to large groups of employes assembled at trade or industrial banquets. Joe Hanley represents the highest type of Americanism. His message is one which rings clear, for it is attuned to the most virile and wholesome American thought.
There is nothing apologetic in his attitude. He is above such petty temptations as adopting a metropolitan mailing address on the supposition that it wins prestige or confers strength to his assertions.
He is appreciative of the fact that the center and circumference of this nation is its
Main streets.
It is characteristic of Joe Hanley that he should be proud of his old home town and that he should find a pleasure in referring to it, as he appears before audiences made up, for the most part no doubt, of those who never before heard the name. Muscatine is as proud of its
fighting parson
as he is of it.—
