KATHARINE ROBERTS
Author of Best-Sellers, Foreign Correspondent and Successful Playwright who Brings Lecture Audiences a Writer's Slant on Today's Problems
KATHARINE ROBERTS, who was recently awarded the Knight of the Order of the Crown by the Belgian government for her new book, The Bravest of These, began her professional career as a Foreign Correspondent for the Western Newspaper Union. Although two years under the age limits, she was the first woman correspondent to enter that country after World War I and was the first correspondent to work there in civilian clothes following World War II.
Switching from light and humorous writing for leading magazines in 1938, Katherine Roberts began her serious works on current affairs. Her latest book, The Bravest of These was done as a special assignment for Doubleday and Company and treats post-war conditions in Europe. Other of her books include, Center of the Web and Private Report. Some of her produced plays were Divorce Me, Dear and Bonfire to Glory.
A frequent contributor to such magazines as Collier's, Liberty, Good Housekeeping, American Mercury and others, Miss Roberts has a colorful background as a journalist. Her father and grandfather before her were newspaper publishers to whom she gives credit for her early training.
Born at Fort Madison, Iowa, Miss Roberts received her Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Teaching Certificate from the School of Education at the State University of Iowa. She was graduated Phi Betta Kappa and obtained her Master of Arts degree on a graduate scholarship along with a fellowship to work for her Doctorate.
