THE REDPATH BUREAU, KIMBALL BLDG., CHICAGO
ANSON BROWN Brilliant News Photographer, Foreign Correspondent, Special Travel Feature Writer, Chicago Tribune … Outstanding Color Movies
ANSON BROWN, whose special travel articles in the Chicago Sunday Tribune have attracted wide and favorable attention, is a brilliant young photographer, foreign news gatherer and an able speaker. His motion pictures in natural color, illustrating his splendid talks on Guatemala, Invading the Indies and South of the Rio Grande are superb.
Journeys to the Mediterranean, the South Seas, the Caribbean
A native of Decatur, Illinois, Brown went to work for the Decatur Newspapers, Inc., following courses in engineering and journalism at Purdue University. The summer of 1935 he visited ports in Spain, Greece, Turkey, etc., on a freighter. From June to October, 1936, with his camera and typewriter he journeyed to Hawaii, Samoa, Fiji Islands, Australia, New Zealand, Cook Islands, Tahiti, etc. In 1937 he moved to Chicago, and during the month of June of that year he left by car for a three months trip through Mexico. This time he took his color movie camera with him. May, 1938, found him in the Caribbean, where he remained for three months—Haiti, Porto Rico, the Virgin Islands, etc.
To Guatemala for His Finest Film
In the fall of 1940 Brown left for Guatemala. During the eight weeks he was there he not only filmed modern Guatemala, but also went into the jungle to secure motion pictures in natural color of the lost city (Mayan), the growing and marketing of bananas and chicle. He went to the coffee plantations and secured the best pictures of coffee grown and prepared for market ever taken.
Youngest Adventurers Club Member to Carry Flag
Anson Brown is the youngest member of the famed Adventurers Club of Chicago to carry a club flag on an exploration trip. For the past two years Brown has been associate director of the Adventurers Camp for Boys, Lac du Flambeau, Wis., which is open during the months of July and August.
