Agnes Mathis CHERRY
Dramatic Artist
Figure
AGNES MATHIS CHERRY
Figure
Agnes Mathis Cherry appeared several times on our Teachers Institute program, October 27 and 28 in her gorgeous costumes, wearing a sweet smile always (and that smile was returned by her audience because it was an assurance of friendship.) She met a lot of teachers before and after her appearances making new friends here and there. They all loved her and want her back again. She cast a happy atmosphere over our Institute.—Office of County Superintendent, Murphysboro, Ill.
AGNES MATHIS CHERRY occupies an enviable place at the top in the dramatic field and each year brings her new triumphs. New cities are added to her list each season, but the most eloquent testimony of her popularity is the number of return engagements. This year she will appear for the sixth time before some of her audiences.
Miss Cherry's programs are popular with all types of audiences. Some prefer the three-act play; some the character sketches; and some a combination of the two. Her character sketches are original—taken from life as she goes about from coast-to-coast.
Miss Cherry knows more about the inside workings of folks' emotions than most people, having studied with the late Dr. Adler. She has done much delving into Personality and her lecture on that subject is both informing and interesting.
Brings the Theatre to You In Great Plays of Yesterday and Today
Miss Cherry has a charming personality, vibrant, magnetic and gracious. She is tall and graceful and makes a striking stage picture, especially when she appears in the costumes of exquisite laces and brocades, authentic of the periods represented by her characters.
She is well schooled, having studied with the best teachers in this country and Europe. As a young girl, she was associated with Southern and Marlow, and from this most distinguished couple she learned the value of a finished technique in acting; also that a speaking voice must be to the dramatic performer what the organ is to the organist—the real vehicle.
Miss Cherry has her own studios, does much writing, teaching and radio work. She also lectures on Personality, but her first love is her One Woman Show.
I heartily recommend Agnes Mathis Cherry for Spring luncheons, guest days, state and district conventions or any special occasion that calls for excellent talent. With her gracious friendliness, fine stage presence, beautiful costumes and acute knowledge of everything that is good drama, she brings one of the finest programs to be had.—Drama Chairman, Federated Clubs.
