The MONTAGUE LIGHT OPERA SINGERS
REDPATH
The Montague Light Opera Singers
LIGHT OPERA, always popular with the masses, is featured in costume by the Montague Singers. In the repertoire of this veteran organization are scenes from The Serenade by Victor Herbert, Robin Hood by Reginald DeKoven, and the Pied Piper; selected numbers from The Mikado, The Red Mill and Madam Butterfly, and a complete operetta, A Japanese Romance, all of which are given in costume. Incidental solos, duets and quartets from the best song literature give pleasing variety to the program. One or more readings, such as a sketch from The Blue Bird by Maeterlinck, give further diversion without departing from the superior quality of the Montague program.
Doubtless much of the success of this company year after year is due to the fact that there is no let-up in their musical study. New program features are constantly being developed, and in this way return engagements are welcomed without the necessity of duplication.
Warmly Complimented
Not since David Bispham sang 'Danny Deever,' and Maud Powell played the 'Humoresque' on her magic violin, have our music lovers had such a treat as the Montague Light Opera Singers gave them. This is the enthusiastic comment of the El Paso (Tex.) Herald.
Chaplain Allison Hayes of the United States Naval Hospital, at Las Animas, Colorado, writes: I can say with full assurance that this is the best organized mixed quartet that I have ever seen on a lyceum platform. They established immediate confidence. Their voices and acting were superb. They pleased our difficult audience without dropping to cheap and popular airs.
Gold Mine for Music Lovers
In the Montague Light Opera Singers the Redpath Bureau has a real gold mine for music lovers. The company gave the most delightful program heard on our lyceum course in my long term of service.
—Principal Lee A. Wolfard, Casper (Wyoming) High School.
Just put it down that the whole company is par excellent.—

JOHN EICHENBERGER, tenor and manager, was the original manager-tenor of the Kellogg-Haines Singing Party, with which company he was identified for ten years. Previous to his entering Redpath management, he was a church tenor in St. Louis. He has also had operatic and stage experience, and was the organizer of the Montague Company.
One of the pronounced hits of the evening was made by Mr. Eichenberger in his character songs. He gave a clever impersonation—one that was marked by excellent singing, in a clear, spontaneous tenor voice. —

ALTHA MONTAGUE, contralto and reader, specialized in public speaking and English in the University of Chicago. While in Chicago she was contralto soloist at the Hyde Park Baptist Church and at the First Congregational Church of Evanston. After graduating from the University she entered the Kellogg-Haines Singing Party, with which company she sang for five years.
Miss Montague gave an intelligent portrayal of a reading from Maeterlinck's Blue Bird and in this proved to be as charming a reader as she was a singer. In point of fact, her reading verged near to singing. As an encore she gave a humorous reading which was well received.—

EDNA REYNOLDS, soprano, graduated from the music department of Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa. For four years she was one of the most popular concert artists in Ontario, Canada, where she appeared as soloist with large choral societies and bands. Just before entering the Montague Company, she spent a year studying in the McBurney Studios in Chicago, during which time she was soloist at the Wilmette Congregational Church.
Miss Reynolds' voice has an unusual sweetness which at once captivated the audience. It is bright, flexible and carrying in timbre. In the operatic numbers she won instant applause. —

HAYDN THOMAS, bass and accompanist, has had a varied career in the musical world, including seasons with Joseph Sheehan's Metropolitan English Opera Company, the Aborn Company and the Savage Opera Company. In Lyceum and Chautauqua work he become known in the Strollers Male Quartet and in the Cathedral Choir.
In Haydn Thomas the Montague Opera Singers have a bass with a voice of real profundity and agreeable mellowness. As a comedian he kept the mean between light opera and bouffe with practiced nicety.—
