MILTON MERRILL is known far and wide as Northern Illinois' popular young radio minister.  More than that, he is the able and dynamic pastor of Freeport's First Methodist Church, which has had an increase of 50% in membership since he came there two years ago.  Its financial support also has tripled.  He was called to Freeport from Dundee, Ill., where he doubled the membership of the Methodist Church in a matter of four years.  That's why Freeport went after him and got him.  On the platform he is an immediate success.

Station WFRL of Freeport broadcasts his sermon each Sunday morning to an audience of over 50,000 listeners in Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin.  His radio listeners say: HE TALKS WITH CONVICTION, HE TAKES YOU WITH HIM, HE PUNCHES HOME HIS MEANING, GIVES A BIG LIFT.  And much more.

A graduate of Temple University of Philadelphia, founded by Russell Conwell, Milton Merrill was singularly inspired by the spirit and philosophy of this noted preacher, speaker, educator and humanitarian.  Conwell's great lecture, Acres of Diamonds, actually built the university.  From the 1870's, over a period of fifty years, he gave this lecture more than 6,000 times to audiences all over America.  He not only inspired them, but raised $1,000,000 for his university and other institutions in Philadelphia.

Milton Merrill did social settlement work in Philadelphia, while a student at Temple University, at Friend's Neighborhood Guild and Friendship House.  He also was program director at Kensington Boys' Center in Philadelphia.

During the time he was at Garrett Institute, Northwestern University, from which he graduated in 1951, he was pastor-director of the Lincoln Institutional Church of Chicago.  That brought him face to face with racial and other social problems of Chicago's South Side and Skid Row on Chicago's West Side.

At present Milton Merrill is contributing writer to the adult publications of David C. Cook Publishing Company, where his articles and sermonettes reach a church public of more than 200,000.

As a speaker, Mr. Merrill is known for his incisive, direct, and thought-provoking approach.  His talks are leavened with humor and there is never a let down.
