CRAWFORD ADAMS And His Company
Figure
Minnie L. Sample Soprano and Accompanist
Figure
HAS been with the Adams Co. several seasons. Perhaps you remember the satisfaction that she gave. A remarkable voice, sweet and clear, possessing a phenomenal range. She has some splendid solos in the new program. Music critics call her one of the truly big Sopranos of the year. You should hear Miss Sample in some of the more familiar songs especially with violin obligato. This feature of the entertainment is very popular whenever presented. Her remarkably clear enunciation, tenderness of expression, combined with the natural sweetness of her voice produces an effect which is rarely equalled, never excelled. Miss Sample is also an accomplished pianist and her accompaniment work is fully up to the high order of the entire program.
Crawford Adams
THE Wizard of the bow, that's Adams, the violinist. He is as different from the ordinary violinist as black is from white. There is not about him the slightest trace of the usual or time-worn traits found in so many players. There is a fire and dash in his personality that glows through his fingers and thrills the audience. He puts his whole soul into the music, seemingly forgetful of his hearers. You listen only for the music, now throbbing in passionate appeal, now faint as the fairy pipes.
Adams is one of those musicians of real ability who do not fear to injure their standing by playing the numbers so dear to the hearts of music lovers not ultra musical. One of the most interesting features of his program is his challenge to the audience to ask for any favorite selection; without hesitation Adams plays the request.
Roselth Knapp Breed
HAS earned the well-deserved title of Boston's Leading Woman Humorist. It has been given her by thousands of delighted hearers. She is the best known exponent of humorous stories and sketches in New England. She has that unusual combination, true humor with refinement. Her clever sketches convulse an audience with laughter, yet leave it with a real admiration for her natural and brilliant presentation. Some of her monologues and character sketches are original, others written especially for her. The numbers are presented in costume.
It puzzled us not a little at first thought to know whom to put with Crawford Adams, whose personality would not be completely buried by the wizard. Mrs. Breed is the only logical choice. She is as big a sensation in her work as Adams is in his.
THIS is the entire evening company par excellence of the Lyceum. Rather a strong statement but it is attested by hundreds of enthusiastically written testimonials, and surely if return dates count we can have no hesitancy in repeating the above statement. The most pleasing and versatile entertainment you can imagine. Classical selections, or your own home tune, the grave and the gay in recital, the same wide range of song, and an accompaniment for it all that is fully in keeping.
A program of great variety and adaptability, and which will be arranged to suit your particular audience. Mr. Adams always welcomes suggestions from his committees, and, with his almost inexhaustible repertoire, he is enabled to work to the best mutual advantage. It is necessary to place your booking with this Company early in the season.
Press Notices
A more satisfied audience would be hard to find anywhere than the one that attended the Opera House on Monday evening. From beginning to end the programme was one which could not help but please all those who know what really good music is.—
Pembroke, (Ont.) Canada.
Everyone was more than pleased. At the close of the concert they didn't seem to care to go away. Adams is a wonder. We are more than satisfied with him.
Binghamton, New York.
The Amsterdam, N. Y., Lecture Course Committee in their report to the bureau say that the Adams Co. proved to be the most popular in the history of the course which has been conducted for twenty-nine years.
Mr. Adams is a wonder with the violin. His playing shows genius, itself, for he puts his whole soul into the instrument. He responded to rounds of applause during the afternoon's performance.—
Gettysburg, Pa.
It is not too much to say that as regards the genuine pleasure of the entire audience, which filled the opera house to the doors, not an entertainment in all the long list of courses which the high school has given in years past could equal the one of Wednesday evening, which started the course of 1915–1916.
The company was headed by Elmer Crawford Adams, the young violinist, whose playing fairly took the people by storm.
The impersonator, Miss Roselth Knapp Breed, added variety to the program and gave much pleasure. Her work was new, original, and up-to-date thoroughly.
Miss Minnie L. Sample was the soprano and she was excellent. She sang simple songs, but with a sympathetic, cultivated voice, with an enunciation and phrasing that were perfect, and she gave great pleasure by her singing.—
Rochester, N. H., Nov. 12.
The concert given last evening in the New Armory by Mr. Crawford Adams, violinist, was by all odds the most successful affair held in the city in years.
There is no entertainer appearing in Carbondale who is so generally liked as Mr. Adams and his work last evening gained him many more admirers.
The Lyceum course started out splendidly with an entertainment by the Elmer Crawford Adams Company of Boston. It was one of the finest entertainments given here in years.
Mr. Adams is not only an artist on the violin but he has the intuitive gift of understanding his audiences and giving them the selections that appeal to them. His numbers were delightful. Miss Roselth K. Breed, reader and humorist, was great. A goodly proportion of women readers and humorists are unendurable, but Miss Breed is a star, and her selections convulsed the audience. Miss Minnie L. Sample, soprano soloist and accompanist, has a charming voice and sang delightfully. She played the accompaniments during the evening with rare sympathy and skill. She certainly contributed her full share to the excellence of the program.—
— Somersworth, N. H.
The Elmer Crawford Company made the greatest hit with us last night of any entertainment we have ever had come here. All the artists were at their best, and were most generous in what they gave us. The school was perfectly charmed with the work of all three. Adams is simply a wonder. No one can appreciate him without seeing the ardent, vital spirit that manifests itself in everything that he does.—
Hebron Academy, Hebron, Maine.
Adams has filled four hundred and sixty-one engagements in Greater Boston, alone.
He has created more admirers and friends than any other artist on our entire list.
