A FOREWORD



Dr. William F. Harding is a man among men and stands with the best platform men of today.  He is a good scholar, a deep thinker, who clothes his thoughts in attractive and pleasing language, yet is plain and simple and clearly understood.  He illustrates his subjects with the choicest wit and humor, which gives his lectures and addresses a fitting combination of true scholarliness, classical pointedness and heartiest fervor.  He is truly free from the dry mixture of mere words and sentences.  His style is peculiarly his own, winning and graceful.  Being tall and erect his mannerisms are commanding and hold attention to the end.  Children are attracted to him and he is their friend.  His work on the platform makes him worthy of patronage.



Dr. Harding is a marked success as a Chautauqua Platform Manager because of his careful and painstaking attention to the details which make programs run smoothly, yet does it in a quiet and unobtrusive manner.  Everything is kept fresh and sparkling.  The talent forces are always his friends and the people are anticipative.




Dr. Harding has specialized in the study of the Bible as Literature and has been remarkably successful with the Bible Hour during the forenoons at Chautauquas.  His work here brings return dates and larger audiences.  He makes the Bible live anew and ever afterwards the book has a fresh and living charm.



Though a busy pastor Dr. Harding reads extensively and is conversant with world movements and thoughts and is able to give some limited time to the lecture and Chautauqua platform where those who hear him are his admirers.  He has been recalled to Chautauquas for the sixth season.

Dr. Harding is a versatile speaker and during the three years he has acted as platform manager here has done things which have won him recognition.  On occasions he has taken the place of speakers who were unavoidably detained and has held his audience in such spell-bound attention that visible dismay was apparent when the speaker arrived.  It is frequently necessary to fill an entire date for a speaker and this Mr. Harding can do successfully.  Chautauqua speakers of note have spoken very highly of his work as platform manager.
