DR. JOHN GELBERT
Knows Hitler and All His Associates Intimately. Tells Graphic and Exciting Story of What Is Taking Place in Germany Today
DR. JOHN GELBERT has had a most astounding career as the son of a noted German diplomat; a famed German War pilot; a ship's physician, who cruised all over the world; a noted foreign news correspondent; an adventurer; a world traveler; a lecturer; an author of two German best-sellers; and finally, as a daring German–American citizen, who suffered Nazi terrorism and persecution to save the life of a close relative. He knows Hitler and all his associates intimately, their private lives, their aims. His is the most graphic, revealing and exciting story of what is taking place in Germany today that is being told on the lecture platform. The Nazis threaten Dr. Gelbert with death should he return to Germany.
For Six Years a Brilliant Foreign Correspondent
At the close of the war, Gelbert entered the University of Bonn in a wheel chair. He continued his graduate studies at the Universities of Heidelberg and Berlin receiving his medical degree from the latter institution. Following two years as a ship's surgeon on English and Japanese vessels, he entered the journalistic field. For six years he served a big German news syndicate as a star foreign correspondent. As such he covered the news hot–spots of South America, Australia, Africa, China and Japan for this syndicate.
Wrote Two Best-Sellers, Which Were Burned by Nazis
Dr. Gelbert is the author of two books, which became German best-sellers–Hunger im Goldland (Hunger in the Gold Land) and Verwundete Seelen (Wounded Souls), which attracted widespread interest in Germany. But during a purge of literature by the Nazis, all copies of the books that could be found, 68,000 in all, were burned, because they had been published by a Jewish firm.
Became a Naturalized American Citizen
The big news syndicate for which he worked was forced to go out of existence because it was owned by Jews. So, in 1930 he decided he could no longer live in Germay, even though he was a gentile. He came to America to live and received his final citizenship papers in the fall of 1936. During this time he made several voyages to Germany to keep in close touch with what was going on there.
Returns to Germany to Rescue Close Relative
As soon as he received his American citizenship papers, his people in Germany appealed to him to return to aid them in finding a close relative who had been secretly arrested and taken to some unknown place. Early in 1937 he went back to Germany to see what he could do as an American citizen. For obvious reasons, the name of the close relative, whose life he saved, cannot be revealed.

Some Recent Comments
(Dr. Gelbert has that rare dramatic gift of story telling; his descriptions are graphic and thrilling. He has a fine sense of humor and has no difficulty in holding an audience tense for two hours or more.)
Chicago Junior Asso. of Commerce, Stanley Herlin, Ex. Sect'.
His frank discussion of conditions in Germany as he saw them on his recent trip was well delivered and intense-ly interesting. We were particularly pleased with the many questions that followed his lecture concerning condi-tions in Germany.
Speakers Forum, Uptown, Chicago, R. C. Bertrand, Sect'.
I have received more favorable comment on Dr. Gelbert than any speaker in recent years.
Bryn Mawr Community Round Table, C. N. Tingley, Pres.
It was an experience to be remembered to hear first–hand of conditions in Germany. I would certainly recom-mend him to groups who are interested in learning of foreign conditions from one who knows.
Lions International, Chicago, G. A. Edgar
Most interesting and enlightening speaker. I was impressed by the rapt attention of the large group of people who heard him. Also the fact he was really bombarded with questions following the lecture.
