RAY GARNER presents
The Mountain
HIGH ADVENTURE — CLIMBING THE AMERICAN MATTERHORN
figure
A NEW APPROACH IN MOUNTAIN FILMS
By combining his skill as a mountaineer and 15 years experience in making fine motion pictures Ray Garner has achieved an epic of man against mountain. This story of the ascent of the Grand Teton of Wyoming, by Mrs. Garner and two world famous mountaineers, brings to the platform a uniquely thrilling and professionally photographed and narrated performance.
YOUR PICTURES ARE A KNOCKOUT!
LOWELL THOMAS
figure
RAY GARNER is particularly suited to the production and presentation of travel-adventure films. He has had fifteen years experience in script writing, directing, shooting, editing, and sounding motion pictures. He is an active member of both the American and Canadian Alpine Clubs, and has led climbs in the United States, Canada, Great Britain, and Africa. In 1948 he made the first ascent of Brussels Peak in the Canadian Rockies — considered in mountain circles as one of the most difficult climbs of recent years. The unusual combination of experienced mountaineer and skilled cinematographer means that Ray Garner is capable of moving professional camera equipment into unbelievably difficult positions. His films prove it!
His
'Portrait in Music'
technique is widely acclaimed as a unique interpretation in the field of travel-adventure photography. These films are intimate studies of wilderness areas, shot and edited to precisely match the scores of great symphonies. Mr. Newton B. Drury, Director of the National Park Service, has written,
The 'Portraits in Music' … give the person who sees them the feeling that he is exploring and experiencing these places himself. There is a happy blending of music and photography … effective and striking as any I have ever seen.
Ray Garner brings to the platform the very breath of the out-of-doors. His delivery is carefully slanted to catch the imagination and interest of all types of audiences. He tells a personalized story with high enthusiasm and humor. The result is thrilling theatre plus the artistic appeal of a fine concert.
THE MOUNTAIN —
High Adventure
This unusually beautiful and exciting film gives the step by step thrill of the ascent of a major mountain. For those who will never experience a mountain climb in the physical sense, this lecture carries the individual lift, the sense of victory within oneself, the dependence on one's comrades, and the mastery of equipment, which are the true sensations of a mountaineer on a great peak. Told without artificial drama — but with drama aplenty — and set to a background score of fine music,
THE MOUNTAIN
is a completely new and highly exciting approach to the field of travel adventure films
.
This presentation is prefaced by a 'Portrait In Music' of the Teton area, which sets the mood for fullest appreciation of the featured ascent. To the grandeur of a Beethoven symphony the camera moves into and up the cloud hung peaks. The music carries the thrill of discovery of the little animals and alpine flowers of the heights. This is the beauty which belongs to the mountaineer, and your audience is made to feel it.
THE DESERT —
Exploring the Southwest
A highly colorful and fascinating journey into the wilderness areas of our desert land. The film portrays one of the most beautiful and varied regions of the earth — weird formations — bright flowers — desert animals — thundering waterfalls — forgotten civilizations — the desert dropping down to the sea. This travel adventure tells the story of our heritage, our ancient land, and the fantastic beauty that remains today.
A combination of the 'Portrait in Music' technique, and narrated sequences, make
The Desert
a refreshingly different program. This is an unforgettable personal experience for every member of your audience.
