The Scottish Musical Comedy Company in THE COTTER'S SATURDAY NIGHT
THE Scottish Musical Comedy Company of Boston presents this season the great musical play The Cotter's Saturday Night. Fresh from triumphs throughout New York and New England, The Cotter's Saturday Night is an outstanding feature on the Redpath list.
Based upon Robert Burns' immortal poem of the same name, this notable play was written by John E. Daniels of Boston. The author has caught in his play the very spirit of the Scottish life so vividly described by the Ploughman-Poet. In a quaint old Scotch setting of the eighteenth century, John Anderson, the cotter, his family and some of his friends are shown spending a Saturday evening with songs, stories and laughter. The laird's son, with his youthful love for Jeannie, the cotter's daughter, introduces a note of appealing romance.
The Cotter's Saturday Night is brimful of delightful and inimitable Scotch humor and joyous laughter. This simple Scotch family presents a picture of contentment and happiness that is unforgetable.
Beautiful old Scottish melodies, loved the world over, are superbly sung throughout the production.
The Following Characters Are Presented in the Play:
John Anderson, the cotter; Margaret, the cotter's wife; Jeannie, their daughter; Robert Douglas, the laird's son; Jamie, the cotter's son; Tammas Cuthbertson, a neighbor. Each role is splendidly portrayed, both as to acting and singing. The company is composed of seven outstanding artist-entertainers, including a pianist.
During the Play These Songs Are Sung:
John Anderson, My Jo, Laddie, Hurrah for the Highlands, Ye Banks and Braes, Scots, Wha Hae, Duncan Gray, Loch Lomond, Annie Laurie, Bonnie Mary, Of a' the Airts, Wert Thou in the Cauld Blast, A Man's a Man for a' That, The Auld Hoose, The Lord Is My Shepherd, Auld Lang Syne.
Praise from President and Mrs. Coolidge
President and Mrs. Coolidge recently attended a performance in Washington of The Cotter's Saturday Night and expressed themselves as greatly pleased. The President received the company at the White House the following day.
Jason Noble Pierce, the President's Washington pastor, after hearing the performance wrote, I cannot begin to tell you of our appreciation of 'The Cotter's Saturday Night,' and everyone is asking when you are coming back.
