JOHN B. HUGHES
One of the most convincing and effective speakers of the day is top-ranking commentator, John B. Hughes. His hundreds of lectures this past season have merited and received the highest praise!
Mr. Hughes recently returned from the Pacific with dramatic, first-hand information on our war with Japan. This personally made survey, at the sides of our courageous men who are fighting this war, is used as the basis for Mr. Hughes' new, thought-provoking lectures.
John B. Hughes makes a point of being where the news is. His attendance at the San Francisco Conference and his on-the-spot reporting when we re-captured the Philippines is indicative of this. He is a reliable authority on world affairs in general‐and his ability to recognize the significance of each incident in the ever-changing international situation is well known to all those who have heard his lectures, listened to his broadcasts and read his frequent articles in national magazines.
First to warn America of the Japanese threat to our security, Mr. Hughes saw those threats become grim reality. He has made an intensive study of the Far East, particularly the history and psychology of the Japanese and knows fairly well what they will do under given conditions. That he warned us more than a hundred times is a matter of record. When his predictions became fact, Hughes' tremendous listening audience found added reason to respect his stimulating comments on international affairs.
John B. Hughes has had an exceedingly full journalistic life. Starting as a reporter on the Long Beach Press, he has been in turn, a drama editor, actor, stage director, radio announcer, writer, commentator and lecturer. As a speaker, Hughes has been acclaimed by large enthusiastic audiences wherever he goes. Clarity of thought, thorough knowledge of his subject, an easy effortless style of delivery and an engaging personality combine to make Mr. Hughes one of the most popular speakers at the present time!
PRAISE AND COMMENT
We are very happy to inform you that Mr. John B. Hughes' lecture was an unqualified success. His excellent radio voice, personable appearance and flawless interpretation of his subject matter, made him a great favorite with our members. In addition I want to add that Mr. Hughes was probably the most cooperative of any of the speakers we have had in the last several years. It was a real pleasure to meet him and we feel very fortunate in having chosen him as the opening speaker of our spring semester.George I. Werner, Director, Current World Affairs, Spokane, Washington

I would like you to know that John B. Hughes' address to our student body and faculty was highly successful. I would estimate the audience at about 1800 people, who had only the finest things to say about his address here.Ralph E. Dunford, Dean of Students, University of Tennessee
Mr. Hughes was splendid, our people loved it‐and in spite of extremely adverse weather conditions we had a good house. We especially liked his clear cut picture of Democracy at Work' in the Philippines. It was most timely and inspiring. We were delighted with Mr. Hughes and the things he told us!Mrs. Lois Overton Norman, President, American Legion Auxiliary, Magnum, Okla.
Hughes was a knockout! The audience sprang up and cheered! We had a flood of letters asking for his manuscript. It was such a clear authoritative statement with an absolutely fresh point of view. His lecture was superb!John A. Lowe, President, City Club of Rochester, Rochester, N. Y.
